After a few hours of travel, I finally arrived around 7:00 in the morning. The streets were still calm, and there weren’t many people outside yet. The early morning light made everything look peaceful the small houses, the stores, and even the quiet roads. When I reached my aunt’s house, the first to greet me was Kenny, my cousin’s cat, who immediately rubbed his head on my legs. I couldn’t help but laugh. Moments later, my aunt and uncle came out to welcome me with big smiles and warm hugs. I felt so happy to see them again, and that moment already made my trip worth it. The first day was a mix of rest and helping out. My aunt and uncle owned a store and a carinderia, so I spent most of the day assisting them arranging items, serving customers, and chatting with them about what’s new in their lives. Even though I was technically on vacation, I didn’t mind helping. It actually made me feel more connected with them. We spent the day laughing, telling stories, and enjoying simple moments together.
As evening came, we got ready for something exciting we were heading to Mactan-Cebu International Airport to welcome Uncle Jens, my Aunt Ann’s boyfriend. He had just returned from Australia after completing his internship as a seaman. I couldn’t contain my excitement because it was my first time visiting an airport. Everything there amazed me from the large glass walls to the bright lights and the different travelers rushing to their destinations. I even noticed high-end brands like Prada, which I only used to see online.
While waiting, I decided to buy potato fries to kill time and took a few pictures around the airport. I felt like a tourist, taking everything in and smiling at the smallest details. Finally, after a while, Uncle Jens arrived, and my aunt’s face lit up with happiness. It was such a wholesome moment to witness. We took some photos together, booked a taxi, and headed home with laughter and excitement filling the night air.
The next morning, something special happened. My love of my life told me he wanted to see me and he actually traveled four hours by motorcycle from Bogo City to Mandaue City just to be with me. I was so touched because that same day was also the opening of their basketball league, but he still chose to spend time with me. His effort made me realize how much he truly cared. When he arrived, we decided to explore the city together. Our first stop was Ayala Malls Cebu, one of the most beautiful malls I’ve ever been to. The moment we stepped inside, I was stunned by the modern architecture, wide open spaces, and elegant stores. It reminded me of Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Manila clean, lively, and full of life. We walked hand in hand, visiting shops, admiring displays, and stopping to take pictures along the way.
One of the highlights was trying out the photo booth. We took so many funny and sweet pictures that made us laugh so hard our stomachs hurt. Those photos became little souvenirs of our time together simple yet full of meaning. After that, we went to Sugbo Mercado, one of Cebu’s most famous food hubs. The place was vibrant and alive with music, delicious smells, and happy people. We tried the fried chicken with the fries and mozarella cheese and refreshing drinks. Every bite and sip tasted like happiness.
As night fell, we watched the city lights glow around us. We were both tired, but it was the kind of tired that came from having so much fun. We headed home smiling, grateful for the day we spent together. That day will always be one of my favorite memories full of laughter, love, and little moments that made me appreciate life even more.
On my final day, my friends invited me to go to SM Seaside, one of the biggest and most beautiful malls in Cebu. I couldn’t say no! We spent the morning getting ready and left with excitement. When we arrived, I was amazed at how massive the place was the structure, the views, and the people made it feel like a whole new world.
We decided to eat at Rib Shack, where the food was both affordable and delicious. I ordered ribs with rice, and it was absolutely mouthwatering. We shared stories, laughed loudly, and took lots of photos. After eating, we explored the mall, stopping by shops and kiosks. One of the cutest things I saw was a giant teddy bear mascot and of course, I didn’t miss the chance to take a picture with it! It reminded me of my own stuffed toy named Penguiny, which I bought from Miniso Japan. Seeing the mascot made me think of my childhood and how some things never fail to make me smile.
After hours of walking, we grabbed snacks my all-time favorites: shawarma, takoyaki, and frozen yogurt. It was the perfect way to end our adventure.
But as the day came to an end, I had to prepare to go home because it was also the last day of enrollment at school. After taking a quick bath and saying goodbye to everyone, I went to the bus terminal and traveled back to Bogo City.
As the bus moved away, I looked out the window with a grateful heart. Those three days in Cebu City may have been short, but they were filled with so much laughter, love, and unforgettable memories. From helping my aunt and uncle, to exploring the city with my favorite man and friends every moment was a reminder that happiness doesn’t need to be expensive or grand. Sometimes, it’s just about being with the people who make your heart feel at home.
So yes, even a short trip can fill your heart with lasting happiness.
Thank you my dear Hivers, for joining me on this wonderful journey may you also find joy in the simple adventures of life, especially those shared with your family and friends.
