This New Year was simple and full of warmth because I spent it with my family at home. We prepared food, we gathered around the dining table, and we counted down to midnight together. It was not a big party and there were no loud celebrations outside, but it was still a happy and memorable night.
Before midnight, we set up all the food on the table. Looking at the dishes made me smile because everything looked delicious and colorful. There were roasted chicken, vegetables like carrots and broccoli, pasta, lumpia, and different fruits. We also had grapes, oranges, and apples on a tray to add color to the table. The food felt like a symbol of a new beginning. We usually include fruits on New Year's Eve because they say round fruits bring luck. Whether it is true or not, it added a nice tradition to the moment.
We also baked and heated some bread, and there was a dish of salad that everyone enjoyed. The smell of food filled the house, and it made the night feel even more special. Each of us helped with the preparations. Some cooked, some arranged the plates, and others set the drinks. It felt good to work as a team before sitting down and eating together.
One of my favorite moments of the night was when we gathered for a family picture. We stood close together, and you could see the smiles in the photo. The atmosphere felt warm and happy. Being surrounded by family reminds me that we do not always need fancy celebrations. Sometimes staying home, talking, and eating together is enough to make a night meaningful.
When it was close to midnight, we prepared our noise makers, watched the time, and waited for 12 am. The countdown felt exciting. Everyone was ready. When the clock finally hit midnight, we greeted each other "Happy New Year" and laughed. We hugged and made noise. The excitement was so strong that we all rushed outside to look at the sky.
Fireworks were loud and bright everywhere. The sky was full of colors. I took out my phone, planning to capture a video or photo, but when the moment happened, I forgot completely. I did not take a single picture. I was too happy and too busy watching the fireworks with everyone. Sometimes living in the moment is better than holding a phone. Even without photos, I can still remember how it felt.
After the fireworks, we went inside and continued eating. We also talked about our goals for the new year. Some wanted to save more money, others wanted to start new hobbies, and some just hoped for better health and more peace. The conversation was simple, but it felt good to listen to each other.
Many people celebrate the New Year in big ways. But I like this simple celebration. It was quiet, but I felt relaxed and happy. I think what made it special was being surrounded by the people I love. A celebration does not have to be loud to be memorable. What matters most is the warmth inside the home.
As the night ended, I looked around and felt thankful. A new year is another chance to start fresh, and I am glad I welcomed it with my family beside me.
