I am blessed to have a wonderful aunt and uncle who love me and whom I love with all my heart. They have been married for over 50 years, and for as long as I can remember, they have always looked after all of us as if we were their own children.
They live in Caracas, Venezuela, and I live in Barcelona, about a 5-hour drive away. Before, it was very easy to visit them because I was young and honestly didn't know where the money came from, but there was always some 😊. Now, because of the cost of transportation and my own obligations, I don't visit them as often as I'd like, but when I do, the moment is unique.
A few days ago, I had the opportunity to pass through the capital, and a few days before, I let them know I was going to visit. I told them it would be different because this time we would go out to eat somewhere they liked and felt comfortable.
I thought they would object, but on the contrary, my aunt took the initiative and said she wanted to go for pizza at a shopping mall in the city that she hadn't had the chance to visit yet.
Yo soy bendita al tener unos tíos maravillosos que me aman y que yo amo con mi corazón. Ellos tienen de casados más de 50 años y desde que tengo uso de razón siempre han estado pendientes de todos nosotros como si fuéramos sus propios hijos. Ellos viven en Caracas, Venezuela, y yo en Barcelona; a unas 5 horas en carro. Antes, era muy fácil ir a visitarlos porque era joven y de verdad no sabía de dónde salía el dinero, pero siempre había 😊. Ahora, por el precio del transporte y mis propias obligaciones, no los visito tan seguido como quisiera, pero cuando lo hago, el momento es único.
Hace días tuve la oportunidad de pasar por la capital y días antes les avisé que iba a visitarlos. Les dije que sería distinto porque en esta oportunidad iríamos a comer a un sitio donde ellos quisieran y se sintieran cómodos. Pensé que iban a oponerse, pero, por el contrario, mi tía tomó la iniciativa de que quería ir a comer pizza en un centro comercial de la ciudad que no había tenido la oportunidad de visitar.
I picked them up around 10:00 a.m., and their excitement was obvious. They were dressed in their lovely outfits, and I think they hadn't been out in a long time because all their neighbors agreed they looked very handsome and well-dressed. My aunt kept telling them that her niece had arrived and we were going to eat.
Things have changed for the better. They didn't have a car, but that wasn't a problem because you can get everywhere by subway. Now, with taxi apps, I called one because they're too old to be exposed to the crowds on the train. My uncle was very happy and was in the passenger seat, taking charge of everything 😊.
Los pasé buscando como a las 10:00 a. m. y su emoción se notaba; se pusieron su atuendo muy bonito y creo que tenían mucho tiempo sin salir porque todos sus vecinos coincidían en que estaban muy bonitos y arreglados. Mi tía le afirmaba que su sobrina había llegado e íbamos a comer. Las cosas han cambiado para bien. Les cuento que ellos no tenían carro, pero no era obstáculo, porque en metro se llega a todos lados. Ahora, con las aplicaciones de taxi, yo pedí uno porque ellos ya están de una edad avanzada para exponerlos al tumulto del tren. Mi tío estaba muy feliz e iba en el asiento del copiloto comandando todo 😊.
We went for a pizza my uncle chose with anchovies, a gesture I appreciated because it had been years since I'd had that topping, and wow! It was amazing. The pizza was fantastic and more than enough to take home.
Fuimos por una pizza que eligió mi tío con anchoas, gesto que agradecí porque tenía años que no comía ese ingrediente y ¡DIOS! estaba genial. La pizza fue lo máximo y suficiente hasta para llevar.
From there we walked through the Sambil shopping center, which is very beautiful, but as time was short, we left and, since we were in the center, we visited a very famous church where we gave thanks for the blessing of meeting.
De allí caminamos el centro comercial Sambil que es muy bonito, pero como el tiempo apremiaba, salimos de allí y, como estábamos en el centro, pasamos visitando una iglesia muy famosa donde dimos gracias por la bendición que tuvimos de encontrarnos.
My uncles and I are the only Catholics in the family, so for us, fulfilling the sacraments, attending mass, or having a moment of prayer is super important.
Mis tíos y yo somos los únicos católicos de la familia, así que para nosotros cumplir con los sacramentos, asistir a misa o tener un momento de oración es superimportante.
This church is special because the remains of our first saint rest there, and the government restored both the temple and the outside, leaving it unrecognizable to me, who hadn't been there for years.
Esta iglesia es especial, porque allí descansan los restos de nuestro primer santo y el gobierno restauró tanto el templo como la parte de afuera, quedando irreconocible para mí, que tenía años sin pasar por allí.
In a chaotic Caracas, on a Friday at 3:00 p.m., we went to a place that sells beers and is also famous in the city, where we sat and shared stories from before, now and always; those stories that never go out of style 💞.
Con una convulsionada Caracas, un viernes a las 3:00 p. m., nos trasladamos a un sitio donde venden cervezas y es también famoso en la ciudad, donde nos sentamos y compartimos historias de antes, ahora y siempre; esas historias que no pasan de moda 💞.
The great thing about Caracas is that there's always something to do for all tastes and ages. That's why, even though we only spent an afternoon together, we're planning to visit other places that are always on our list for our next trip 💯.
My aunt and uncle are starting to show their age; however, they never stop showing, demonstrating, and giving us the pure love of parents and the affection of aunts and uncles. That's why I consider them my favorite aunts and uncles, and I hope to visit them soon to fulfill our plans, continue making memories with them, and be able to do what they want while they're alive, not after they're gone when there's nothing left to do.

Lo bueno de Caracas es que siempre hay un plan disponible para todos los gustos y edades. Por eso, aunque compartimos solo una tarde, quedamos pendientes para la próxima visita ir a otros sitios que siempre están marcados en nuestra agenda 💯. A mis tíos ya se les nota el cansancio de los años; sin embargo, no dejan de mostrar, demostrar y darnos el amor puro de unos padres y la complacencia de unos tíos. Por eso, los considero mis tíos favoritos y espero poder ir pronto para cumplir esa agenda, seguir construyendo recuerdos a su lado y poder cumplir con ellos en vida y no en una tumba cuando ya no hay nada que hacer.
