Hace unos días tuvimos una celebración importante en el grupo, ya que el novio de mi amiga cumplía 40 años 🥳. Es curioso y gracioso a la vez, porque cuando estudiaba en el liceo(secundaria), tenía profesores de esa edad o incluso más jóvenes, y me parecían ancianos, ja, ja, ja. Hoy en día, alguien que cumple 40 años es un jovencito para mí; es como si, después de cumplir 25 años, los años siguientes no contaran.

A few days ago we had a big celebration in our group because my friend’s boyfriend turned 40 🥳. It’s both curious and funny, because when I was in high school, I had teachers that age or even younger, and they seemed like old people to me, ha ha ha. Comenzamos la noche decorando la pared donde nos íbamos a hacer las fotos. Mi amiga tuvo la idea de recrear el número 40 con fotos del cumpleañero desde su niñez hasta la actualidad. Nos pasamos un buen rato llenando las bombas, pegando la cortina y las fotos, y justo después de que nos hicimos las fotos, ¡todo se vino abajo! 😂. Por suerte, quedó el recuerdo, pero, por otro lado, perdimos todo el tiempo invertido.
We started the evening by decorating the wall where we were going to take the photos. My friend had the idea to recreate the number 40 using photos of the birthday boy from his childhood to the present. We had a great time filling the balloons, hanging the curtain and the photos, and right after we took the photos, everything came crashing down! 😂. Luckily, we still have the memory, but on the other hand, we lost all the time we’d put into it.
Como el cumpleañero es un parrillero de corazón, fue el encargado de preparar el festín que nos dimos, porque sí, comimos carne, pollo, chorizo y cochino hasta casi reventar. De hecho, tuve que dar un paseo por la urbanización para poder digerir la comida. Mi amiga preparó una ensalada riquísima y la acompañamos con pan árabe. ¡Todo estaba delicioso!
Since the birthday boy is a barbecue enthusiast at heart, he was in charge of preparing the feast we enjoyed—and yes, we ate meat, chicken, sausage, and pork until we were almost bursting. In fact, I had to take a walk around the neighborhood to help digest the meal. My friend made a delicious salad, which we enjoyed with pita bread. Everything was delicious!
Para terminar la noche, disfrutamos de una exquisita tarta de chocolate que preparó mi amiga. Es su receta secreta y la llama «troncha toro», como la película, porque lleva muchísimo chocolate. Lamentablemente, no le tomé fotos 🥲. Mi esposo preparó un quesillo para compartir y la mamá del cumpleañero hizo una gelatina de parchita. De verdad, todo estaba muy rico. Tuve que dejarme el postre para llevar porque estaba muy llena, pero ya saben que al día siguiente todo sabe mejor.
To wrap up the evening, we enjoyed a delicious chocolate cake that my friend made. It’s her secret recipe, and she calls it “Troncha Toro”—after the movie—because it’s packed with chocolate. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pictures of it 🥲. My husband made some quesillo to share, and the birthday boy’s mom made a passion fruit jelly. Seriously, everything was so delicious. I had to save some dessert to take home because I was so full, but you know how it is—everything tastes better the next day.
