On January 15, 2023, as every year in Venezuela, the Educator's Day is commemorated; and I know that many days have already passed but when we are each focused on different tasks it is almost impossible to agree to meet, because when one can, the other cannot. However, we were able to arrange a day and it was last Saturday, March 4th.
El pasado 15 de Enero de 2023 como todos los años en Venezuela se conmemora el Día del Educador; y sé que ya han pasado bastantes días pero cuando nos encontramos cada quien enfocado en diversas tareas es casi imposible poder estar de acuerdo para reunirnos, ya que cuando uno puede el otro no. Sin embargo, pudimos concretar un día y fue el pasado sábado 04 de marzo.

Before telling you more about our sharing, it is appropriate to talk a little about the origin of this commemoration, which arises in the year 1932, specifically on January 15, when the Society of Teachers of Primary Education was founded in the city of Caracas, Venezuela, whose purpose was to fight for the rights of teachers and to achieve salary claims. However, it was in 1930 that the First National Teachers' Convention was convened, a meeting of teachers in which the Venezuelan Federation of Teachers was created. It is important to highlight that this federation included very important characters for Venezuelan education such as Miguel Suniaga and the teacher of teachers Dr. Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa.
Since that date, the members of the federation decided to make it official to commemorate such important work where its purpose is to promote educational values and respect for essential figures of teaching. Also, on this very day but in 1870, President Antonio Guzmán Blanco signed the presidential decree stating that Primary Education should be public and compulsory.
Antes de contarles más acerca de nuestro compartir, es propicio hablar un poco sobre el origen de dicha conmemoración, la cual surge en el año de 1932 específicamente un 15 de enero cuando se llevo a cabo en la ciudad de Caracas Venezuela la fundación de la Sociedad de Maestros de Instrucción Primaria, la cual tenía como propósito luchar por los derechos de los profesores y lograr reivindicaciones salariales. No obstante, fue para el año de 1930 que se convoca la Primera Convención Nacional del Magisterio, una reunión de profesores en la que surge la Federación Venezolana de Maestros. Es importante resaltar, que por dicha federación pasaron personajes muy importantes para la educación venezolana como Miguel Suniaga y el maestro de maestros el Dr. Luis Beltrán Prieto Figueroa.
A partir de esa fecha, los miembros de la federación decidieron tomarla como oficial para conmemorar a tan importante labor donde su finalidad es promover valores educativos y respeto hacia imprescindibles figuras de la enseñanza. Además justo este día pero en el año 1870 el presidente Antonio Guzmán Blanco firmó el decreto presidencia donde señala que la Instrucción Primaria debía ser pública y obligatoria.
Unfortunately, Venezuelan education is currently going through a sad situation, as teachers receive miserable salaries that have them practically destitute or doing alternative jobs in order to survive. It is for this reason that since the last quarter of the year 2022 teachers belonging to the Ministry of Education are in constant protests, which has also led to demotivation, sadness and disillusionment.
Since I have been in this guild I remember that it is a very important day for those of us who exercise this beautiful work; it is a day of celebration that we never let pass under the table; however, when the fact of celebrating was raised many said "there is nothing to celebrate" or "with what money are we going to go out to share"; then a friend and I dedicated ourselves to exhort our colleagues that it is our day and that we should not let it pass without doing something to celebrate.
Lamentablemente, en estos momentos la educación venezolana se encuentra atravesando una triste situación y es que los docentes perciben sueldos de miseria que los tienen prácticamente en la indigencia o realizando trabajos alternos para poder sobrevivir. Es por esta razón, que desde el último trimestre del año 2022 los docentes pertenecientes al Ministerio de Educación se encuentran en constantes protestas, lo que también ha conllevado a desmotivación, tristeza y desilusión.
Desde que estoy en este gremio recuerdo que es un día muy importante para quienes ejercemos esta linda labor; es un día de celebración que nunca dejamos pasar por debajo de la mesa; sin embargo, cuando se planteó el hecho de celebrar muchos dijeron “no hay nada que celebrar” o “con qué dinero vamos a salir a compartir”; entonces una amiga y yo nos dedicamos a exhortar a nuestros compañeros de que es nuestro día y que no debemos dejarlo pasar sin hacer algo para celebrar.
Now, my friend and I were looking for quotes for restaurants, but it was not a valid option because a dish in a nice restaurant was rather expensive; so we changed our plans for a pool day and make a soup, but the place they lent us was far from the city and not everyone had how to move there; this led us to the cheapest option but not bad and it was to make a sharing at my friend's house.
Then, we moved on to the other problem and that was to be able to set a date when we could all attend, but this was impossible, so we had to do it with those who could attend because we had already been postponing it for a long time. Now, between my friend and I, we took on the organization of the sharing, we looked for the budgets and decided to make some delicious hamburgers.
Ahora bien, mi amiga y yo nos dedicamos a buscar presupuestos para restaurantes, pero no era una opción válida ya que un plato en un lindo restaurant salía algo costoso; así que cambiamos de planes para un día de piscina y hacer una sopa, pero el sitio que nos prestaron quedaba retirado de la ciudad y no todos tenían como trasladarse hasta allá; esto nos llevo a la opción más económica pero no mala y fue hacer un compartir en casa de mi amiga.
Entonces, pasamos al otro inconveniente y fue poder concretar una fecha en la que todos pudiéramos, pero esto fue imposible, así que se tuvo que hacer con los que pudieron asistir porque ya teníamos mucho tiempo posponiéndolo. Ahora bien, entre mi amiga y yo nos echamos a cuesta la organización del compartir, buscamos los presupuestos y decidimos hacer unas deliciosas hamburguesas.
Then we agreed to put $4 per person, once we collected the money we went to a place that sells wholesale and compared everything for the hamburgers, another partner went to the Cecosesola Cooperative to buy the vegetables and potatoes. Then we went to my friend's house and started making the hamburgers.
As they arrived, they joined in to help, some chopped, others fried potatoes, others grilled the meat and others assembled the hamburgers. Once they were finished, we sat at the table to thank God for the food, for the moment we were sharing and to ask Him for better times, knowing and understanding that His will is good, pleasant and perfect. After the prayer, we began the meal, there were two hamburgers per person and the truth was great.
Entonces acordamos colocar 4$ por persona, una vez recogido el dinero nos fuimos hacia un lugar que venden al mayor y comparamos todo para las hamburguesas, otro compañero fue a la Cooperativa Cecosesola a comprar los vegetales y las papas. Entonces nos fuimos para casa de mi amiga y empezamos a hacer las hamburguesas.
A medida que iban llegando, se iban incorporando a ayudar, unos pican, otros fritaban papas, otros asaban la carne y otros armaban las hamburguesas. Una vez terminadas, nos sentamos en la mesa a dar gracias a Dios por los alimentos, por el momento que estábamos compartiendo y a pedirle por tiempos mejores, sabiendo y entendiendo que su voluntad es buena, agradable y perfecta. Ya después de la oración, comenzamos la comedera, fueron dos hamburguesas por persona y la verdad nos quedó estupenda.
Finally, this is how we celebrate Educator's Day because despite the circumstances, it is a pride to be a teacher and whatever we are going through should not limit us to live a quality time.
