Star Apple Juice
When family gets together it feels special and happy like there is a cozy feeling in the air. In our backyard with had a fruit bearer which is the kayamito or star apple hanging heavy on the branches in our backyard. This isn't just any fruit but also it's a taste of home and the star ingredient in our family's cherished homemade juice.
Today was a sunny and fun day☺️We laughed and worked together to pick our own star apples and it felt really good to eat them.
Our backyard is full of green plants and lots of fruit. It's proof that the soil is good, thanks to the people who took care of it before us. We have sweet mangoes that look like sunsets, lanzones that are like little golden candies, and tall coconut trees that move in the breeze. But today, the star apple was the most special.
The star apple trees were full of ripe fruit, and they looked shiny in the morning. You could tell they were sweet inside. Seeing them made us all excited to pick them. My cousin suggested we harvest them, and my uncle, who's good at climbing, quickly said yes. It's really fun to watch someone climb a tree, like going back to being a kid.
My uncle climbed the strong tree easily. Against the bright sky, you could just see his shape. He knew exactly what to do, picking the ripe star apples. They were heavy because they had gotten lots of sun. We could hear the soft sound of the fruit falling, and each one meant we'd get to eat something sweet soon.
As we gathered the star apples, and they shone in the sun, I felt a warm feeling remembering the past. These fruits weren't just food they showed how our family is connected to this place and all the good things around us. It reminded me that the simple things in life are the best – the happiness of picking what we grew and knowing that the sweet taste came from our own yard.
Once we had all the star apples on the ground we started the real work. They felt smooth and cool as we put them carefully into baskets they felt nice and heavy.Getting them ready for juice was something we all did together like everyone helping out at the same time. We cut open the star apples and inside they were creamy and white with a pretty star shape. The sweet, milky smell was all around us and making us excited to taste the juice.
Taking out the soft jelly stuff inside the star apples was fun even though it got a little messy. It was super sweet like a burst of sugar that made our mouths happy. It tasted great just like that but we knew our family's special touch would make it even better.
We used a big clear pitcher to make our drink. We poured in the soft, white star apple and it swirled around. Then we added something special condensed milk. It made the simple fruit taste rich and sweet like a special treat. We stirred it all with a wooden spoon and the sound it made was nice and peaceful as we spent the afternoon together.
As the sweet flavors mixed together we got really excited to taste it. The last thing we added was ice. Big cold cubes went into the pitcher,
making a crackling sound. We stirred it again and the white juice became cold and looked so good to drink.
The first taste was amazing! The sweet star apple and milk, made cold tasted perfect together. It was like a refreshing sweet taste of the tropics that made us want to drink more. The juice was like our family a simple things made into something really special.
We had a wonderful day together picking star apples from our backyard. We made delicious juice and laughed and talked for hours as the sun slowly went down. It was a simple day but being with family and enjoying what our garden gave us felt really special.
The star apple juice wasn't just a drink it also reminded us of how good it feels to be together and enjoy nature. As the day ended with a beautiful sunset we felt happy and thankful.
Making the juice was about more than just a tasty treat. It was about making memories and feeling close to each other. It showed us that the best things in life are often the simple things we share with the people we love.
Even as the stars came out,I felt so grateful for my family and our fruitful land. Making the juice together was a reminder that the most important things are not things you can buy but also the connections you make and the happy times you share. Every sip of the star apple juice tasted like home, family and pure happiness. I hope we can always do this and that these sweet memories will stay with us just like the taste of the star apple. We are already looking forward to the next time we can harvest the fruit and make more juice because these happy love-filled days are the brightest parts of our lives. It is not just the juice that's sweet but the memories we make while making it memories that will always shine in our family's story.
