No doubt, life expectancy has increased, due to advances in the medical field. We used to see very old people living in society. Even when we were children, we can recall how frail and senile they appeared, how weak they were, yet their presence felt like a blessing for the community. They were experienced individuals who had endured the harshest phases of life and were able to share their insights and wisdom in every aspect of living. Their presence gave us hope, and we could imagine ourselves someday reaching that stage of life and growing that old.

They had immense respect for everything around them. They cared deeply about nature and considered its conservation their duty. Nature, to them, was holy and divine, and they firmly believed that anyone who harmed or damaged it in any way would eventually be punished. They believed in purity and never tried to contaminate or adulterate things for personal gain. To some extent, it can be said that contaminating techniques and substances were not common in their time, but beyond that, they possessed a conscience that made them truly human.

Today, contamination can be seen in almost everything we consume. People have become greedy and are increasingly inclined toward hoarding wealth and living luxurious lives. In this pursuit, they no longer care about the methods they adopt or the consequences of their actions. Contamination has become a serious menace, and people are suffering greatly because of it. A large number of individuals are facing deadly diseases such as cancer and other serious ailments, which not only drain their finances but also claim their lives. One of the major reasons behind these diseases is the contamination and adulteration of food items we consume. In addition to this, the excessive use of pesticides and fertilizers in the agricultural and horticultural sectors is also contributing significantly.

A recent study in the Kashmir Valley has revealed that more than 30 cancer cases are reported every day. Earlier, the number was merely around 300 cases per year in 2018, but now it has crossed a thousand annually, which is an alarming situation. People must wake up to reality and return to sincerity, because what goes around comes around. Those who are responsible for adulteration and chemical contamination of food items, leading to such dangerous diseases, will eventually see its effects on their own families as well.

No doubt, authorities are working to address this situation, but greed and an excessive inclination toward riches have made people so selfish and indifferent that they fail to realize the long-term consequences. Their sole objective has become the accumulation of money and the pursuit of a luxurious lifestyle. Many lives are being lost to such deadly diseases, and at this stage, it is difficult to imagine whether we will even be able to reach the age that our elders once did. What they consumed was pure, whereas what we consume today is largely chemical-laden and contaminated.
We must refrain from such practices. Those directly involved in the production and supply of food items must abandon these harmful activities, because people are suffering. If we do not step back even now, it will lead to a disaster that may become impossible to control.
