Last week brought someone new into my life, someone I didn’t expect would leave such a warm impression on me in such a short time. Her name is Yeye, though I playfully call her Quipresh. We didn’t meet long ago, but somehow, it feels like we’ve known each other longer than we actually have.
Yeye came into Lafia from Keffi to visit her boyfriend, who happens to be my friend too. That’s how everything connected. From the moment we met, she carried this calm, kind energy that just made it easy to talk to her. Nothing forced, nothing awkward, just simple, real conversations. You know those kinds of people that make you feel comfortable without trying too hard? That’s Yeye.
One thing that stood out to me was her kindness. I still remember how she cooked rice and stew and even served me. It wasn’t something I expected at all, but it showed the kind of person she is, thoughtful and giving. In a world where people often do things expecting something in return, moments like that feel rare.
After she left, we stayed in touch. We chat on Facebook and WhatsApp from time to time, just catching up and sharing little things about our lives. I told her about myself, and she opened up too. She loves dancing, like, really loves it, and you can tell it’s something that brings her joy. That alone says a lot about her personality, free spirited and lively.
Then yesterday, something unexpected happened. I was just going about my day when I saw a Facebook notification, it was her birthday. I honestly didn’t know before then. Immediately, I went to her WhatsApp DM and asked for her pictures. No delay, no overthinking. I just felt like celebrating her in my own little way.

She sent them, and I posted her on my status. Simple gesture, but genuine. And the funny part? I think she was the first person to view it. That alone made me smile. It showed she noticed, and I could tell it meant something to her. Sometimes it’s not about big gifts or grand surprises, just being remembered is enough.
What I appreciate most is how something so small strengthened a new friendship. It reminded me that connections don’t always need years to grow, sometimes, sincerity is enough.
Happy birthday once again, Yeye, Quipresh. You may have come into my life recently, but your kindness and vibe are already unforgettable. I wish you more joy, more dancing, and more beautiful moments ahead.
