Happy Birthday Mama!
I start seeing a pattern with the way my year goes; Usually in January to February I would go home and celebrate my mom’s birthday then I would venture far away forgetting “home” a little bit and eventually would retreat into seclusion during November-December. This time, it seems like I am going in the same direction. I got the chance to celebrate my mom’s fifty-eight birthday. I certainly did not want her to grow old as there are so many things and places we haven’t experienced and seen.
Though our relationship has its ups and downs, I would not trade it with another kind of relationship. She’s the best travel companion, supported my strange way of living, and most importantly, accepted who I am and my beliefs. I hope that this year will bring her more contentment in her life and also health. This year though, my mom reluctantly celebrated it with a cake but what’s a party without a cake? We didn't really throw a feast this year but kept it simple yet meaningful. Afterall, it’s who we spend time with that matters, right?
I got her a small tiramisu cake to share with other family members and we sang happy birthday. When she was making a wish, I was slightly curious but I hope whatever she’s wishing for will come true. As you see above, the candle is only one. I thought the store would give me a few candles but they only gave me one and it wasn’t something I expected. But I shrugged it off because the cake was delicious and the strawberry was fresh. We had laughter and chit-chat about how my mom’s life has been and how crazy some years could be. I have to say, she truly enjoyed living through its ups and downs. That is something that I also aspire in the future, to have that ability to be resilient and enjoy life's processes and journey.
