El 11 de agosto mi hijo menor arribo a sus 18 años de edad, este día quedará grabado en nuestras memorias como un día inolvidable, ya que esto no es solo un cambio de números sino, que pasó de la etapa de adolescencia a la etapa de adultez, una etapa llena de ilusiones, sueños, metas y muchas responsabilidades. La felicidad de ver a mi hijo cumplir esta edad es indescriptible, pues pensé que jamás llegaría a ver este momento, ya que, por situaciones con su salud al nacer, era imposible que él llegara tan lejos como hasta ahora. Él es un regalo maravilloso y un grandioso milagro de vida.

Desde que inició las doce de la madrugada, empezaron las alegrías, la felicidad, los abrazos y las felicitaciones para mi bebé, pues siempre seguirá siendo mi bebe, así este viejito. Al iniciar la mañana comenzamos los preparativos, ya que esta celebración se llevaría a cabo en casa de sus abuelos paternos, por problemas de salud con su abuelito, así que mi esposo y yo nos adelantamos súper temprano, mis hijos y mi mamá se llevarían las cosas para elaborar el almuerzo y la torta que yo le realice la noche antes.

On August 11th my youngest son turned 18 years old, this day will remain engraved in our memories as an unforgettable day, since this is not only a change of numbers but, he passed from the stage of adolescence to the stage of adulthood, a stage full of illusions, dreams, goals and many responsibilities. The happiness of seeing my son reach this age is indescribable, because I thought I would never get to see this moment, since, due to situations with his health at birth, it was impossible for him to get as far as he has so far. He is a wonderful gift and a great miracle of life.

Since the stroke of midnight, the joys, happiness, hugs and congratulations for my baby began, because he will always be my baby, even if he is old. At the beginning of the morning we started the preparations, since this celebration would take place at his paternal grandparents' house, due to health problems with his grandfather, so my husband and I went ahead super early, my children and my mom would take the things to prepare lunch and the cake that I had made the night before.

Desde que nos levantamos en la mañana, se sentía la energía, la alegría y la emoción de que todos los días no se cumplen 18 años de edad. Estos momentos son propicios para reunir a toda la familia en casa y compartir almuerzos, pasteles, muchas risas y anécdotas familiares. En esta ocasión todos nos pusimos manos a la obra, así es mi familia cuando se trata de fiestas. Mi mamá, hermano, esposo y mi persona nos apropiamos de la cocina, mi hija y yo de los pasteles y mi hermana también con los pasapalos y el atender a los invitados. Este pastel sí lo hice yo sola, ya que mi hija estaba ocupada con su curso de inglés, así que me dije: vamos, militza ¡manos a la obra! Un día antes una prima me llevó a casa calamares, pulpo y langostinos que se le encargó para realizar una pasta a la marinera.

From the moment we woke up in the morning, we felt the energy, the joy and the excitement that it is not every day that we turn 18 years old. These moments are propitious to gather the whole family at home and share lunches, cakes, lots of laughter and family anecdotes. On this occasion we all got down to work, that's how my family is when it comes to parties. My mom, brother, husband and myself took over the kitchen, my daughter and I took care of the cakes and my sister also took care of the snacks and the guests. I did make this cake by myself, since my daughter was busy with her English course, so I said to myself: come on, militza, let's get to work! The day before, a cousin brought me home some squid, octopus and prawns that she had ordered to make a pasta a la marinera.

Como le comenté antes, mi esposo y yo nos adelantamos para comprar lo que nos faltaba para el almuerzo. Eso sí, nuestro compartir en familia se trata de mucha comida y pastel, aquí no aplica el licor, somos más de pasar un buen momento entre risas y comida que sumergidos en el alcohol, ja, ja, ja. En esta ocasión mi esposo me sacó de la cocina para el preparar la cazuela de mariscos. Realmente estaba molesta, aquí peleamos por la cocina, ja, ja, ja. ¡Ah! Pero este día hubo un gran inconveniente, el cual no contábamos con ello y fue un apagón de 18 horas sin luz, más; sin embargo, esto no nos detuvo para disfrutar del momento a pesar del calor. Empezamos a disfrutar de un buen café preparado por mi suegra, cosa que tampoco puede fallar en estas ocasiones. Somos aficionados a este elixir, especialmente el cumpleañero y yo.

As I mentioned before, my husband and I went ahead to buy what we needed for lunch. Of course, our family sharing is all about lots of food and cake, liquor does not apply here, we are more about having a good time with laughter and food than immersed in alcohol, ha, ha, ha, ha. This time my husband took me out of the kitchen to prepare the seafood casserole. I was really annoyed, here we fight for the kitchen, ha, ha, ha, ha. Ah! But this day there was a big inconvenience, which we did not count on and it was a blackout of 18 hours without light, more; however, this did not stop us to enjoy the moment despite the heat. We began to enjoy a good coffee prepared by my mother-in-law, something that can not fail on these occasions. We are fond of this elixir, especially the birthday boy and me.

Mi hermana y mis sobrinos llegaron antes del almuerzo y le trajeron un excelente presente y digo excelente porque es lo que más le gusta a él, o sea chocolates que, por cierto, se los devoró antes de almorzar, pero no hubo problemas, ya que, él nunca se llena, ja, ja, ja. Ya estando listo el almuerzo, mi esposo me llamó para ayudar a servir este exquisito platillo que, por cierto, es el favorito del cumpleañero. Aquí siempre complacemos a los cumpleañeros, así como la torta que también fue a gusto de él.

¿Qué más se le puede pedir a la vida que compartir momentos como estos en unión familiar, mucha comida y dulces, ja, ja, ja? Mientras compartíamos la hora del almuerzo, este momento fue muy emotivo porque todos recordaban una anécdota de mi hijo desde su nacimiento, desde todos esos momentos tristes de salud hasta los momentos increíbles y de todo lo que ha logrado con esfuerzo y disciplina. No me canso de pensar que ya mi bebé tiene 18 años y que realmente aún lo veo como mi pequeño bebé que no podía caminar, ni hablar. El ambiente en la mesa fue super cálido y acogedor, especialmente lleno de mucho amor.

My sister and my nephews arrived before lunch and brought him an excellent present, and I say excellent because it is what he likes the most, that is, chocolates, which, by the way, he devoured before lunch, but there were no problems, since he never gets full, ha, ha, ha, ha. Once lunch was ready, my husband called me to help serve this exquisite dish which, by the way, is the birthday boy's favorite. Here we always please the birthday boy, as well as the cake which was also to his liking.

What more can you ask from life than to share moments like these in family togetherness, lots of food and sweets, ha, ha, ha, ha? As we shared lunch time, this moment was very emotional because everyone remembered an anecdote of my son since his birth, from all those sad moments of health to the incredible moments and everything he has achieved with effort and discipline. I never get tired of thinking that my baby is already 18 years old and that I really still see him as my little baby who couldn't walk or talk. The atmosphere at the table was super warm and cozy, especially filled with lots of love.

Mientras conversábamos en el porche de la casa, solo observaba a mi hijo y me llene de alegría de ver como mi hijo se había convertido en un joven carismático, divertido y muy seguro de sí mismo, de cómo ha llegado tan lejos en sus estudios y en cada meta que se ha propuesto. En este momento me detuve por un momento a reflexionar sobre el tiempo que ha pasado, desde que era un bebé con múltiples enfermedades a un joven sano, saludable y excelente estudiante, hijo, hermano, sobrino, nieto, primo y amigo leal a los suyos. Esto me llena de mucho orgullo y satisfacción.

As we chatted on the porch of the house, I just watched my son and was filled with joy to see how my son had become a charismatic, funny and very confident young man, how he has come so far in his studies and in every goal he has set for himself. At this moment I stopped for a moment to reflect on the time that has passed, from a baby with multiple illnesses to a healthy, healthy and excellent student, son, brother, nephew, grandson, cousin and loyal friend to his own. This fills me with great pride and satisfaction.

Luego de unas horas, entre risas y anécdotas y sobre todo en medio de tanta calor, decidimos cantar el cumpleaños, pues el cumpleañero quería comer de su pastel, hecho por las manos de mamá, y los invitados decían apártate, ja, ja, ja. Cuando se habla de pastel, todos corren por el suyo. Le hice un bizcocho relleno de crema pastelera y frutas como: fresas, melocotón y manzanas rojas. Al encender la vela era muy chistoso porque mi yerno se la apagaba a cada instante y nos decíamos, pero no hace brisa, allí estábamos unos segundos en esa lucha hasta que nos dimos cuenta y todos soltaron carcajadas, así que por fin se encendió y se cantó su cumpleaños y él pido su deseo en voz alta muy chistosamente.

After a few hours, amidst laughter and anecdotes and especially in the heat, we decided to sing the birthday song, because the birthday boy wanted to eat his cake, made by mom's hands, and the guests were saying "move over", ha, ha, ha, ha. When talking about cake, everyone runs for his cake. I made him a sponge cake filled with pastry cream and fruits like: strawberries, peaches and red apples. When I lit the candle it was very funny because my son-in-law was blowing it out every moment and we were saying to each other, but it is not breezy, we were there for a few seconds in that fight until we realized it and everyone laughed, so finally it was lit and his birthday was sung and he made his wish out loud very jokingly.

Cuando encendí la vela para cantar cumpleaños feliz, empecé a sentir una mezcla de sentimientos entre felicidad y nostalgia y me preguntaba: ¿cómo es posible que ya mi bebé haya crecido tanto? ¿En qué momento pasó el tiempo y no lo noté? Allí entendí lo rápido que pasa el tiempo y que debemos disfrutar momentos de calidad al lado de nuestros hijos, ya son 18 años, cerca para que él alce completamente sus alas y empiece a vivir su propia vida como todo ser humano. Ver a mi hijo feliz en todo el momento compartido fue mi mayor felicidad, de verdad que estos momentos no tienen comparación alguna. En este momento solo existía felicidad plena en su rostro y satisfacción de que estaba completamente agradecido por este pequeño compartir que se hizo en su nombre.

When I lit the candle to sing happy birthday, I began to feel a mixture of feelings between happiness and nostalgia and I wondered: how is it possible that my baby has already grown so much? At what point did time pass and I did not notice it? There I understood how fast time goes by and that we must enjoy quality moments with our children, it is already 18 years, close for him to fully raise his wings and start living his own life like any other human being. Seeing my son happy in all the shared moment was my greatest happiness, truly these moments have no comparison whatsoever. At this moment there was only full happiness in his face and satisfaction that he was completely grateful for this small sharing that was made in his name.

A medida que transcurría el tiempo se hizo más interesante nuestras conversaciones, ya que, escuchar todos sus sueños, aspiraciones y metas que mi hijo tiene en mente para su futuro me lleno aún más de orgullo y estoy convencida de que logrará todo lo que se proponga en la vida por su constancia, perseverancia y disciplina, factores importantes para alcanzar las cosas. A pesar de que no hubo música, no hizo falta, porque realmente la familia hizo el mágico ambiente, lleno de mucho amor y armonía. La mejor música fueron las carcajadas llenas de felicidad de toda la familia. Para despedirme, les quiero compartir que el cumpleaños de mi hijo fue una gran experiencia, la cual estuvo llena de emociones, alegrías, anécdotas y mucha ilusión por él por venir de él.
