Las hallacas navideñas es una tradición en la gastronomía Venezolana justamente en esta fechas de decembrina que todas las familias se unen para poder realizarlas ya que tienen bastante trabajo que hacer, para proceder hacerlas osea que tenerlas en la mesa es todo un reto normalmente nosotros las hacemos todos los 22 de Diciembre pero este año mi abuela decidió hacerlas el domingo 21, por lo que nos disposimos bastante temprano para poder hacerlas mi abuela, tía Geka, mi hermana mayor Noalys y mi mamá, a pesar de los problemas de salud que podamos tener no dejamos de poder compartir todos juntos como la gran familia que somos.
Hallacas navideñas are a tradition in Venezuelan cuisine, especially during the Christmas season, when all the families get together to make them, as there is a lot of work to be done. to make them, I mean, having them on the table is quite a challenge. We usually make them on 22 December, but this year my grandmother decided to make them on Sunday 21, so we got up quite early to make them: my grandmother, Aunt Geka, my older sister Noalys and my mum. Despite the health problems we may have, we never stop sharing together as the big family we are.
Un día antes nos reunimos a aplicar todas las verduras, así como también el puerco y la carne de res, ya que mi abuela la hace de esta manera tenemos que cortar todo previamente para el día siguiente poder hacer los chicharrones y tenerlos listos para preparar el guiso de las hallacas, ya que de esta manera las hace mi abuela, cabe destacar que mi abuela aprendió a hacer hola hallaca gracias a mi bisabuela que fue la que le enseñó ella, era oriunda de un pueblito del estado de Trujillo desde ese entonces la tradición de ser las hallacas, viene desde los Andes venezolanos a diferencia de que mi bisabuela las hacía con guiso crudo, mi abuela las hace igual que ella pero con guiso cocinado, siguiendo sus pasos culinarios.
The day before, we got together to prepare all the vegetables, as well as the pork and beef. Since my grandmother makes them this way, we have to cut everything up beforehand so that the next day we can make the cracklings and have them ready to prepare the hallaca filling. This is how my grandmother makes them. It should be noted that my grandmother learned to make hallacas thanks to my great-grandmother, who taught her. She was from a small town in the state of Trujillo, and since then, the tradition of making hallacas has come from the Venezuelan Andes. Unlike my great-grandmother, who made them with raw stew, my grandmother makes them the same way she did, but with cooked stew, following in her culinary footsteps.
Mi abuela es la encargada de preprar el guiso exquisito con cada uno de sus ingredientes mi tía Geka, abuela y mi hermana, ellas proceden a prepar las hallacas, mi mamá tiene la gran preparación logistica de amarrarlas la gran responsabilidad ya que mas nadie sabe como hacerlo, porque mi abuelo era también quien las hacía antes pero debido a que el 01 de Diciembre del año pasafo sufrió un accidente cerebro-vascular todo se modifico en el, ahora mi mamá toca hacerlo ella tiene mucha destreza y las amarra bastante rápido.
My grandmother is in charge of preparing the delicious stew with each of its ingredients. My aunt Geka, grandmother, and sister they proceed to prepare the hallacas. My mum has the great logistical task of tying them, which is a big responsibility as no one else knows how to do it. My grandad used to make them too, but since he suffered a stroke on 1st December last year, everything has changed for him. Now my mum has to do it. She is very skilled and ties them quite quickly.
Yo siempre tengo la misma responsabilidad todos los años de lavar las hallacas, desde que soy una niña de 7 años lo hago siempre lavo, limpio los 10 kilos de hojas de hallacas, este año me toco también cortalas previamente para poder luego lavarlas pero para mi sorpresa este año estas hojas estaban bastante limpias por lo que me pareció totalmente fantástica, ya que en años anteriores estaban mas sucias, mi abuela siempre usa las hojas de platano ya que siente que queda más sabrosa la hallacas ya que otras hojas tienen diferentes tipo de preparación y es muy protocolar.
Every year, I have the same responsibility of washing the hallacas. Since I was a 7-year-old girl, I have always washed and cleaned the 10 kilos of hallaca leaves. This year, I also had to cut them beforehand so that I could wash them, but to my surprise, this year the leaves were quite clean, which I thought was fantastic, as in previous years they were dirtier. My grandmother always uses plantain leaves because she feels that it makes the hallacas tastier, as other leaves require different types of preparation and are very formal.
Por último la tradición de las hallacas en familia nunca dejemos de pasarlas por alto, aunque en algunos casos el sabor sagrado de algunos de nuestro familiares se van continúan de generación en generación, lo más importante es no permitir que ese legado se acabe o se destruya sin duda alguna, cada Venezolano adapta las hallacas como mejor les guste o les parezca sean como sean ya que cada región tiene su sabor único y particular.
Finally, we must never overlook the tradition of hallacas in the family, although in some cases the sacred flavour of some of our relatives continues from generation to generation. The most important thing is not to allow that legacy to end or be destroyed. Without a doubt, every Venezuelan adapts hallacas to their liking or as they see fit, as each region has its own unique and particular flavour.
