Desde hace algunos meses he estado pendiente de comprar una telita para cubrir los mesones en la parte de abajo que están en mi cocina. De hecho, hablé con una costurera para que me diera el presupuesto y tenía en mente eso como una tarea pendiente, no obstante, los gastos de la casa, el día a día y toda la inflación que nos acompaña me había impedido hacer esa tarea. Sin embargo, me las ingenié y no tuve que comprar telas y tampoco pagar para que me las hicieran. Yo misma las hice 😊
Revisando en la casa encontré un pedazo de tela grande y en buen estado. Aunque no es colorida como la quería comprar, era lo que había y sé que muchos de ustedes me entienden porque toca resolver con lo que se tiene y ya tenía lo que hacía falta: tela y amor, más que suficiente para hacer algo bonito. El problema radicaba en que no sé coser 🪡 pero me atreví y lo hice, por supuesto a mano y me encantó la experiencia.
For several months now, I've been meaning to buy some fabric to cover the lower cabinets in my kitchen. In fact, I spoke to a seamstress to get a quote and had it in mind as a pending task, but household expenses, day-to-day life, and inflation had prevented me from doing so. However, I managed to find a way around it and didn't have to buy fabric or pay someone to make them for me. I made them myself 😊
Looking around the house, I found a large piece of fabric in good condition. Although it wasn't as colorful as I wanted to buy, it was what I had, and I know that many of you understand me because you have to make do with what you have, and I already had what I needed: fabric and love, more than enough to make something beautiful. The problem was that I don't know how to sew 🪡, but I took a chance and did it, by hand of course, and I loved the experience.
No hubo ninguna dificultad, tomé la tela y le hice un ruedo después de medir la altura de los mesones. Cómo era ancha comencé a coser de a poquito con un tipo de costura que mi papá me enseñó hace mucho tiempo, se llama el punto invisible o desaparecido, no recuerdo bien pero me sirvió para que la costura se viera por el lado de atrás solamente, así que el frente quedó con unos pequeños puntitos que ni se ven.
Yo soy turista en todo lo que tiene que ver con manualidades, prácticamente soy torpe de manos pero me encantó poder solucionar algo en mi casa con los medios disponibles y con el poco o casi nulo conocimiento que tengo sobre costura.
Poco a poco fui abarcando toda el ruedo de la tela y me gustaba mucho como iba quedando. Pensé que para ser la primera vez no estaba tan mal y en la medida que fui viendo el resultado me entusiasme. Todo es cuestión de atreverse ☺️
There was no difficulty. I took the fabric and hemmed it after measuring the height of the tables. Since it was wide, I started sewing little by little with a type of stitch that my dad taught me a long time ago. It's called the invisible or disappearing stitch. I don't remember it well, but it helped me so that the stitching was only visible on the back, leaving the front with tiny dots that you can't even see.
I'm a tourist when it comes to crafts. I'm practically clumsy with my hands, but I loved being able to fix something in my house with the means available and with the little or almost no knowledge I have about sewing.
Little by little, I covered the entire hem of the fabric, and I really liked how it was turning out. I thought that for a first attempt, it wasn't too bad, and as I saw the results, I got excited. It's all about daring to try ☺️
Una vez que terminé de coser me fui a la cocina y enseguida saqué los tubos e introduje mi obra de arte 😁 fue súper genial ver qué quedó bien. Mi esposo me ayudó a colocarle un clavito en el medio porque quedaba un poco floja y listo. Se veía todo tan diferente y yo sentía una gran sensación de logro 🥳🥳 tanto que de inmediato me puse a coser la del otro mesón.
Qué bonito es ver el fruto de tu trabajo, es tan reconfortante saber que pese a mi pico conocimiento pude resolver de forma sencilla algo que al principio representaba gastos. Claro está, cuando pueda compraré una tela de cortina colorida pero por ahora me siento feliz con mi cortina artesanal 😉
Once I finished sewing, I went to the kitchen and immediately took out the tubes and inserted my work of art 😁 It was so cool to see how well it turned out. My husband helped me put a small nail in the middle because it was a little loose, and that was it. Everything looked so different, and I felt such a great sense of accomplishment 🥳🥳 that I immediately started sewing the one for the other counter.
How nice it is to see the fruits of your labor. It's so comforting to know that despite my limited knowledge, I was able to easily solve something that at first seemed like it would be expensive. Of course, when I can, I'll buy some colorful curtain fabric, but for now, I'm happy with my handmade curtain 😉
