A very large number of Nigerian homes depend on the personal generation of electricity, which most times comes with the use of fuel generators. It's just now that people are gradually switching to the solar system.
I make use of A fuel generator for my work and that of my house and it does a lot for me especially using it to pump water at home which is a basic need.

Earlier last month I noticed that it started smoking baldy anytime I turned it on, it smokes badly for the first two to three minutes and after that it bounces back to the normal flow without bringing out smoke. I knew there was a problem, so I called a mechanic close to my place to have a look at it and just as expected, he said the Generator needs to be worked on, the engine needs to be touched and it'll take a lot of money.

From what I have known about the previous generators I have used, whenever the engine was worked on, the generators were no longer the same, and faults upon faults began to occur.

Mind you, this generator of mine has been serving me for three years without any major work being done on it.

What did I do?

It may sound foolish but it's what I have been using and it's been saving me, especially how the generator is going to be damaged when the mechanic finally opens it to work on it.

Since it's still working and the major thing I'm suffering from is the kinda fast draining of the engine oil, I decided to check the oil level every now and then and be topping the oil level to make it not run shortage. Yeah, this has been my hack and it's been working for me and I'm saving it from repairing it soon. Hopefully it gets to last me for a longer period until it finally needs the mechanical touch.

The reason for the refusal to repair the engine

From what I have gathered from people, it is very rare for a mechanic to fix such an issue perfectly. The best option is often to replace the engine entirely, which is my target, or to buy a new generator. But for now, I will continue using it this way, with constant checks on the oil level.
