This bush is in the garden of the house right next to the wall, and it was planted there because years ago someone broke into the house via the neighbour’s roof, and my mother-in-law had the idea of planting this bush because it has lots of thorns and branches that form a sort of canopy, which would serve as protection. But it’s a bush that grows quite a lot and needs constant pruning, and as it wasn’t planted for its flowers when you prune it, you remove almost all of it. I’d been saying for ages that I’d do the job, but I kept getting distracted by other things, and finally on Monday I got round to it.
I gathered everything I’d need, such as the ladder, a machete, pruning shears, a pruning saw we have at home, gloves and a cap, because the sun’s been really strong round here of late.

Esta mata está en el jardín de la casa pegada de la tapia y se sembró ahí porque hace años se metieron a robar a la casa aprovechando el techo de la vecina y a la suegra se le ocurrió sembrar esta mata porque tiene muchas espinas y ramas que crean una especie de enramada y serviría de protección pero es una mata que crece bastante y hay que estar podando siempre y como no se sembró por las flores aquí cuando se poda se le quita casi todo pero yo tenía mucho tiempo diciendo que haría ese trabajo pero me ponía a hacer otras cosas y por fin el lunes me puse a hacer eso.
Busqué todo lo que iba a necesitar, como la escalera, machete, tijeras de podar, una desjarretadera que tenemos en la casa, los guantes y una gorra porque el sol está potente estos días por aquí.

At least it doesn’t bother anyone, as it’s a dead-end street and we don’t have any neighbours on that side at the moment, but it still didn’t look right, and there are some plants growing there that were bending over because the passion flower bush was hanging over them, so there was quite a lot I had to cut back, and my mother-in-law gave me the go-ahead because the flowers also produce a lot of rubbish and it always looks neglected.
Well, friends, the first thing I did was cut the lower branches; I did that with a machete, but it wasn’t easy because the branches were tangled and I had to be careful as the thorns are long and there are plenty of them, but no matter how careful I was, I ended up with scratches all over my arms.

Ahí en las fotos pueden ver que la mata tenía ramas por todos lados, hasta salía para la vía que por lo menos no afecta a nadie porque esta es una calle ciega y tampoco tenemos vecinos ahorita de ese lado, pero igual no se veía bien y hay unas matas sembradas ahí que se estaban doblando porque la mata de trinitaria la tenían encima así que era bastante lo que tenía que cortar y la suegra dio carta blanca porque las flores también echan mucha basura y siempre se ve descuidado.
Bueno amigos, lo primero que hice fue cortar las ramas más bajas, eso lo hice con el machete, pero no fue fácil porque la ramas estaban enredadas y tenía que hacerlo con cuidado porque las espinas son largas y tiene bastante, pero por mucho cuidado que tuve terminé con los brazos con rasguños por todos lados.
After I’d cut everything at the bottom, I climbed up the ladder because I couldn’t reach it even with the pruning shears, and so I cut as much as I could from the house, and then I had to climb onto the neighbour’s roof to cut everything that had grown over onto her side and the branches sticking out from the house, and that job took me two days because I could only work in the morning as the sun is very strong in the afternoon. Once I’d finally cut everything back, I finished clearing away the branches and, as you can see, the bush is almost bare, but that’s what we need right now; besides, it’ll sprout new shoots quickly.

Después que corté todo lo que estaba abajo me subí en la escalera porque ni con la desjarretadera llegaba, y así fui cortando todo lo que pude desde la casa, y después me tuve que subir en el techo de la vecina para poder cortar todo lo que se había ido para el lado de ella y las que salían hacia afuera de la casa, y en ese trabajo me demoré dos días porque nada más podía ponerme en la mañana porque en la tarde el sol es muy fuerte, y después que por fin corté todo terminé de sacar las ramas y como ven la mata quedó casi pelada, pero eso es lo que necesitamos ahorita, además esa retoña rápido.
