My dad’s in hospital, but thank God he’s getting better and I’m trusting in God that he’ll be discharged on Monday, because I have to stay with him every night and it’s impossible to sleep there – it’s been three nights now, so I’m really tired. I’ve been meaning to post this for days about the job I told you I did, replacing the pipes on the tank I repaired recently at home.

Yo con mi papá hospitalizado, pero gracias a Dios mejorando y confiando en Dios que el lunes le den el alta ya porque me toca quedarme todas las noches con él y es imposible dormir ahí y ya van tres noches así que estoy muy cansado y desde hace días tenía pendiente de publicar este post del trabajo que les dije que hice con el cambio de tuberías del tanque que reparé hace poco en la casa.
In my last post on the forum, I told you that I’d repaired a crack in the tank where all the water was leaking out, and it turned out perfectly – it doesn’t leak at all and has lasted as long as it should. However, I needed to replace a few pipes; I just had to wait for the tank to empty and do the job before refilling it, so I took the weekend to get it done.
To reattach the pipework to the tank, I had to buy a new water outlet fitting, because the one I had had broken a while ago and I’d stuck it back together with a bit of pipe glue to make it last a while. In fact, it lasted nearly five years, as I’d already told you, but to get everything sorted and prevent it from breaking again, it was time to replace it.

En el último post en la comunidad les conté que había reparado una grieta del tanque por donde se nos iba toda el agua, y quedó perfecto, no filtra nada y nos duró lo que debe durar, pero yo tenía que hacer un cambio de unos tubos nada más que tenia que esperar que el tanque se vaciara y antes de volver a llenarlo hacer y eso, y aproveché el fin de semana de hacer ese trabajo.
Para instalar la tubería nuevamente al tanque tuve que comprar la pieza de salida del agua, porque la que tenía se había partido hace tiempo y está se había pegado con un poco de pega para tubería para que aguantará un tiempo, de hecho aguantó casi 5 años como ya les había contado, pero para ya dejar todo listo y evitar se rompa era tiempo de cambiar eso.
Once I had the new part, I set about installing it. I started by fitting the outer section first, screwing the threaded pipe all the way in so that the rubber seal—which prevents water from leaking—was tightly secured. Then, on the inside, I fitted the ring with the other rubber seal and tightened it until it was snug; then, with my son’s help, we turned the tank over and positioned it where the pipe goes.
The original pipe had a 3/4" stop valve which was used to supply the tank, but this valve was damaged and I didn’t buy a replacement; I’ll get round to that later. In addition to this valve, there was another one used to connect a hose or fill a container; I decided to remove it as it was never used.

Ya con la pieza nueva procedí a instalarla y lo que hice fue que coloqué la parte externa primero, introduciendo el tubo roscado hasta el final de forma que quedara bien apretada la goma que evita que filtre el agua. Después por dentro coloqué el anillo con la otra goma y fuí apretando hasta que quedara bien ajustado, luego con la ayuda de mi hijo volteamos el tanque y lo colocamos en la posición donde va la tubería.
La tubería original tenía una llave de paso de 3/4" la cual servía para alimentar el tanque, pero está llave estaba dañada y no la compré, estoy quedó pendiente para después, y además de ésta llave, había otra llave que servía para conectar una manguera o llenar un recipiente, decidí quitarla porque nunca se usaba.
I had some fittings at home that I could use to replace the valve, so I refitted the shut-off valve on the tank that supplies the water, then fitted the fitting I had at home and two reducers to reduce the pipe from 3/4" to 1/2" with a glue joint. I then cut the 1/2" pipe where the valve had been, applied pipe sealant and connected them. After a few minutes, I filled the tank using a hose and checked for leaks; everything was perfect, so I started filling it up again, which we do by connecting the pump from another tank we have in the yard.

En casa tenía unas conexiones que me servía para sustituir la llave, así que volví a colocar la llave de paso del tanque que da salida al agua, luego coloqué la conexión que tenía en casa y 2 anillos para que me redujera la tubería de 3/4" a 1/2" con conexión a pega. Luego corte el tubo de 1/2" dónde iba la llave, coloqué pega de tubería y las conecté. Después de unos minutos procedí a alimentar el tanque con una manguera y verificar que no hubiese fuga, todo quedó perfecto y lo puse a llenar nuevamente, que eso lo hacemos conectando la bomba de otro tanque que tenemos en el patio.
