Please help, I'm addicted to standing in the dark for an hour or more in remote locations, freezing my ass off while I wait for my camera to finish shooting a sequence of stars!!
Star trailing over the Wentworth Needle's Eye
Wentworth Needle's Eye is a 14-metre pyramid Grade II* listed building which is situated in Wentworth, South Yorkshire in northern England. Needle's Eye is one of several follies in and around Wentworth Woodhouse park.
For this shot I took 162 x 30 second exposures with a fisheye lens for the distorted curves and aimed for Polaris (aka The North Star) on the top right hand third. The fisheye lens is so wide I managed to get the trees over my head in the shot, hence the 16 x 9 crop.
North Leverton Windmill under the stars
Before lockdown in the UK, we visited North Leverton Windmill in rural Nottinghamshire to shoot star trails. My lens fogged after around 60 shots so I settled for a little night landscape photography.
This is the star trail shot I managed to get before the lens fogged over. This is 60 x 30 second exposures with a 1 second interval between each capture. The windmill was lit up with a laser by the miller by way of brightening up the lives of the locals in the area.
Searching for Polaris, it's up there somewhere!
Finding new locations to shoot is getting more difficult; this place was literally in the middle of nowhere and with darker skies. Manna from heaven for me!
Tree of OCD
Shot in Budby Forest, Nottinghamshire, this is quite possibly the longest star trail I've ever done at just under 2 hours long. Thanks to Rob Bates for helping prevent me getting bored waiting that long for the sequence to finish!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
