It was more than I wanted to spend but I had to have it; the colours called to me and the way it cast such a soft and beautiful light made me feel comfort and peace. I loved the way it looked, cut glass resembled the facets of life, coloured in various hues, and I imagined my home bathed in the beautiful colours of this lamp. I needed it, and wasn't willing to leave without it.
That was a few weeks ago on a weekend trip to a quaint little town not too far from home. It's full of bakeries and cafés with many antique, second-hand and gift shops also. In one of them I found my lamp. I brought it home, but not until after some price discussions with the shop keeper who, eventually saw may point of view, and offered me a small discount. It wasn't a total win but it felt nice walking away with my carefully wrapped lamp after having saved a few dollars. I had a smile on my face, a winning smile.
This is an image of my lamp that I took - It's lovely yes?
I brought it home, plugged it in and somehow occupied myself until it was dark and then...my lounge room was illuminated from within with such lovely pastel colours. I was so pleased.
I went for a nice soak in the bath, all-over moisturised and pulled on a little pink set I have that always makes me feel sexy then sat in my lounge room with my lamp on and some beautiful music softly playing. I felt like I was inside a kaleidoscope, and I felt so happy; illuminated
Life is a little chaotic at times, for me and many others; I don't think any of us can get through it without a few bumps and bruises. It's a collection of failures, accidents and mishaps, misconceptions and audacious intentions, success by design and happenstance with everything else in between holding all together. It's difficult to find continuity at times, and balance, however there's something that is common to us all, and that's connection with oneself and others.
Sitting in my lounge room cocooned in pastel colours, feeling the moment settle upon me then sink within my depths, I thought about the connection I have with myself and others and it made me smile. It's those connections that reveal life itself, the mystery and the splendour of what life can be; it's those connections, the true, deep and lasting ones, that illuminate our world and our lives.
