Hey lovelies ā¤ļø
It's your favorite girl š
Welcome to my blog š¤
I will start by wishing all my amazing blog readers a Happy New Year and I hope it is filled with direction and strength to achieve all your heart desires.
In this post I shall be dissecting my plan to grow this year without burning out. What a way to officially launch my first post of the year! Last year was predominantly chacterised by early mornings when I have to wake up to get my three year old boy ready for school. There are pleas to hurry to eat his breakfast, rush to beat the time so that he won't run late and sometimes quick morning prayers on the go. Then, from the moment his father drops him off at school I switch the gear to start getting ready for work.
From the moment the shop is opened I begin to attend to customers who hsve come for fittings or purchase of fabrics etc. By the way, if you are just coming across my blog for the first time I design ready-to-wear, traditional and bespoke outfits which require a lot of time and more importantly creativity and precision. Then, when school closes in the afternoon I will have to put everything on hold in the shop to pick up my son and take him home and ensure he showers and eat. Then I return to the shop for a few more hours before finally closing for the day.
The routine can simply be described as creative but chaotic. Perhaps, it is the price of growth. I was really stretched during the course of last year from having so many clients which I'm thankful for but the short timelines and little to no assistance was not encouraging. And on top of it all, the pain of watching my hard-earned money disappear into thin air after investing in what turns out to be a scam was destabilizing. This scam episode occured towards the end of the year and it affected me emotionally and mentally but the lesson was learnt.
Despite all of this, I kept pushing and stopping never felt like an option. But along the line, I realised that there must be a change in this New Year, at least i should be able to do things differently. This means that I must have a clear definition of what growth really means to me. I don't want to see growth as the number of clients I can attend to simulationaneously or how busy my schedule looks throughout the week or month or even how much I can stretch myself when I'm stress or exhausted. Growth to me is more about sustainability.
This means that I want to build a life and career that I can maintain not just for a short period of time but for years to come without losing myself in the process. This means creating designs with passion instead of pressure, in other words, accepting jobs from clients that I can deliver effectively without sacrificing either my health or home. In short, finding adequate time to rest and recharge which deepens the level of my creativity.
Sustainability also means being wise financially after experiencing a huge loss and it means that I have to slowly rebuild all that I have lost as I also avoid quick wins that promise too much returns. Also, I have to me more intentional about listening to my son's chit-chat after school no matter how busy I may be and more importantly creating time to reset when needed.
