It's a pretty rare occasion that I am up and out of the house before 8:00 in the morning. I just don't DO mornings...
7:48am
What's more, I haven't had coffee yet... with a reason: I'm actually sitting in the waiting area of our local hospital, while Mrs. Denmarkguy is in the lab to get blood drawn for a diagnostic medical test.
It's good to get out and about sometimes... a poignant reminder of how the world works, separate from the small bubble of reality we have created for ourselves. We were driving into town at 7:45 and the traffic reminded me that most of these people were on their way to work... an activity I rarely get going on until maybe 11:00.
Not that I am lazy, necessarily... which a large part of the world likes to associate with late risers.
The Many Perceptions of Luxury...
What does "luxury" mean to you?
"Luxury" can take many forms, including the freedom to set our own schedules. Whether or not that particular thing happens to be a positive freedom might be open to discussion. I'm sure there are those who would argue that we need fixed routines to function productively. Too much freedom makes us fat and complacent, right?
I removed myself from working in "The World of Muggles" almost 30 years ago, somewhat disillusioned by the disparity of what I had high hope working life would be (in my late teens) and what working life actually turned out to be.
9:06am
Back home again, Mrs. Denmarkguy and I have our morning coffee... because the thing she went to do was a "fasting" blood draw.
we agree that we are quite grateful to be self-employed, even though it typically means we are eternally hanging by a string, financially speaking.
Evidence, perhaps, that there are certain things in life you cannot put a monetary value on!
Well, Jobs Are Not THAT Plentiful!
The good word of the mainstream bullshit media is that "jobs are plentiful" out there, and "the economy" is doing OK. Not great, but definitely OK. Just look at corporate profits...
Meanwhile, our 31-year old daughter finally got a job, this morning. Which, of course, we are thrilled about.
But here's the thing: Her previous job — as the Executive Assistant to the CEO of a sizeable real estate investment conglomerate — ended some 3 1/2 months ago, and she has been on a steady job hunt, ever since.
She finally landed a comparable position last week/over the weekend!
But there's the thing (part II): There were 413 applicants for that job! Good for her for getting it... but even if we assume 50% of those applications were frivolous/unqualified, that's still more than 200 people applying for a single position.
Maybe those "plentiful" jobs are more along the lines of being a Greeter at WalMart...
As always, there's a massive disparity between "The Official Economic Narrative" and the reality of people living and surviving, at street level.
Meanwhile...
Here we are again, with the Cryptosphere bleeding out for the Nth time, this year.
It's hard not to get "bored" with Hive losing another 10% in a few hours. Of course "the answer" there is to simply enjoy the social content aspect of what we do here, and forget there's money involved.
Easier said than done, and specially for those living in parts of the world where their blogging income is their monthly grocery money!
Makes me glad we grow a fair bit of our own food...
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week!
