As much as weekends are the days where we take a rest from the stress of the week's hustle and bustle, it's most times the only times we have to catch up on fun.
Perhaps what's not much talked about is the fact that there's a large percentage of working but depressed people in our society today.
Over the weekend, I had a social function to attend and attendance was a must for me.
I was certainly surprised by just how many people were outside putting in the work even though it was on a Sunday. Weekends used to be the days when you finally had a personal time off for your own life, but sitting in a bus I could see people literally struggling like it was a Monday morning.
As the bus struggled through the traffic (there's always a large number of weekend parties), the usual road hawkers were after the buses trying to get in one or two sales before the bus moved on.
The first thought that came to my mind was that, all of this struggle and for what?
All that struggle just to eventually die one day. It almost takes away whatever joy you were probably holding on to.
There's a big chance they'll continue to go through all that stress and not even get to have fun because even on the weekends, these guys are out there still trying to just put food on the table.
I was still lost in my thoughts when a call came in from a very close uncle of mine. We had our normal conversation, and immediately the call ended I knew just why we never give up as humans.
I would happily live all the days of whatever years I have left on earth just to get calls from my loved ones once or twice a day.
What's life without those experiences, the good and the ugly side of it. I realized even though we have an unusual number of depressed people nowadays, almost everyone has a reason why they keep holding on, putting in the effort and never letting go.
