A little something about unforgiveness.
It’s no news that we’ve heard or read so many teachings that preach forgiveness, I mean the holy books (Bible and Quran) preach it as well.
We know what it means, so I will not bore you with a definition you know like the back of your hand; rather, I’ll share a short story with you all.
You know when people immediately accept apologies and act like they’re fine? When people decide to let peace reign as opposed to forgiving genuinely? That’s where it all begins. The crazy thing about unforgiveness is that you end up torturing yourself instead of the other person.
Here’s a short story…
A group of girls worked in the same organization; what started as two strangers working side by side gave birth to the four musketeers who were inseparable and loved by many.
Things were going smoothly; they were the envy of the organization as they acted like sisters, and they were insurmountable. Many people wished they had a friend group like theirs as they made friendship look so easy and fun.
Just like every friend group, fights are inevitable, and picking one's allies in a group wasn’t as easy as it seemed but it was doable.
Somewhere along the multiple fights, betrayals, and confrontations, one of the musketeers became the supposed “villain” of the friend group. It was one against three; as sad as it was, it was the new normal, and everyone had to accept the fact that the four whom we admired were reduced to three.
Months passed, and no reconciliation happened. Infact, people got tired of trying to fix the group. A few months later, one of the three musketeers died. A tragic death that broke our hearts and left us shattered.
It felt like a bad dream; how a lady full of life could die after a brief illness was baffling.
As hard as it was, we all had to accept that she was resting and was free from all the pains of this world. While we all mourned this wonderful lady, the supposedly “villain” as labeled by the group was going crazy. She didn’t only lose a friend, but she lost the opportunity to make peace with her before she passed on. This lady didn’t fail to advise us to always forgive as she was dealing with the consequences of unforgivness .
This was a big lesson to all of us who knew about the broken friendship.
Life is too short to keep carrying grudges nonstop, and certainly too short to hate people over trivial matters.
True forgiveness isn’t weakness, but a superpower that only a few possess.
If you’re reading this today and a name pops up, it just might be a sign😃
