The director of the shelter stopped by today. Actually, she comes to the shelter every Tuesday to counsel and study the word of God with us.
When she got here, she announced the birth of her sister's daughter's child in Canada. Well, that's her niece's child. She was so happy her sister is now a grandparent that she asked us to celebrate with her. So I was given N2000 to buy soft drinks and cracker biscuits.
I strolled down to a superstore not so far from us, picked 4 Fanta drinks, and 1 maltina and I decided to go for teem.
I had assumed that the teem I had picked for myself was the one that has a lemon kind of taste.
On getting home, I shared the drink with everyone and kept mine in the fridge. Later in the evening, I went to the fridge, took out the teem drink, and poured a good amount into my mouth, hoping to savor the taste of the lemon in the teem. Unfortunately what I tasted almost made me vomit and it was nowhere close to a taste that I can manage.
I got confused and wondered why it tasted that way. I had to check what was written on the body of the drink, it was at that moment I discovered that it was "teem soda". It wasn't bitter, nor was it sweet but it tasted horrible on my taste buds.

I was about to pour it into the drain when the lady who also stays in the shelter entered the kitchen. I explained my ordeal to her, and immediately, she started laughing so hard because she
could understand and probably relate to the situation. Good thing is, I asked her if she loves taking a drink like that, then she replied saying "yes" and told me about the benefits of drinking the soda.
I replied saying "okay, okay, you can have it all, I don't like it at all".
She gladly accepted and wished that she hadn't drank her Fanta, she would have given me hers, I quickly replied, saying that it was okay, it didn't matter.
At the end of it all, I was glad that the teem soda wasn't wasted because she drank it.
The effect of the little quantity of soda on my tongue hasn't faded, everything I taste has this weird taste and somehow I feel tasting something sugary or sweet would get rid of the soda taste.
This has taught me to always cross-check anything I buy for myself or anyone to confirm that it's the actual thing I need even if I'm sure of it before leaving the store.
