There are days when life feels loud, everyone seems to be running, achieving, becoming. And sometimes, when we look at our own journey, it almost feels like we’re moving in slow motion. We compare our small steps to another person’s giant leaps, and suddenly our own efforts start to feel too little, too quiet, or too slow.
But here’s the truth I’m learning: nothing truly great starts as a giant leap.
Most of the beautiful things we admire today were once tiny, unnoticed beginnings.
Think about a seed. It doesn’t announce itself. It doesn’t rush. It simply rests in darkness for a while, gathering strength, silently preparing for the moment it will break through the soil. And even when it does, it comes out small, fragile, almost insignificant, yet carrying the potential to become a tree that will give shade, shelter, fruit, and life.
That’s how our progress works too.
Your small decision to try again…
Your quiet discipline that no one praises…
Your little acts of kindness that nobody sees…
Your late-night prayers whispered through fear…
Your courage to just take the next tiny step…
These things matter more than you know.
Even as I graduated from Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa State, I’ve come to realize that growth doesn’t suddenly appear because of a title, certificate, or milestone. Yes, graduation is a big achievement, but the real journey is in the many small steps taken long before that day, the nights of studying, the moments of doubt, the silent prayers, the times I felt like giving up yet still pushed through. Those little moments were the true foundation.
Life is not a competition of speed; it’s a journey of growth. And growth is often slow, gentle, and hidden. The steps you take today may look small, but they are building a strength within you that will one day speak loudly.
So today, if your progress feels small, don’t be discouraged. Celebrate it. Appreciate it. Honour it. Your small beginnings are not a sign of weakness; they are signs of life. They show that you’re moving, growing, becoming, one step at a time.
Keep watering your efforts.
Keep showing up.
Keep believing.
And trust that God is working behind the scenes.
One day, you’ll look back and smile, because you’ll realize:
The small things you were doing were actually preparing you for the big things you prayed for.
