Okay, so before anyone gets too excited, I am not sailing away with a pirate crew. But I am very busy, getting ready for the next Love Pirates Festival, which is taking place next month. The festival, is taking place in the same place, but at a different site within the campsite. I visited there last month, to get an idea of what type of decor was needed and what would work. I'm happy to report that there is lots of wall space ( which is great as we have two graffiti artists on our team) and poles, which means lots of flags. My mind is full of ideas.
(Little side story, but still pirate related. Whilst I was working yesterday, I injured my right eye. I was strimming and a stone flew into my eye. Yes I know, I should have had safety goggles on, I usually do. But it was just a quick job, ,so I thought I would be okay. So when I got home later in the day, I put on my patch. yes that's me, with tissue stuffed in behind to keep my eye closed, so that it can heal. Shitty accident, but in the end, I'm even more of a pirate now.)
Yesterday, late afternoon, some of us got together to have fun and make some decor. Jelly fish and signs, were the order of the day, so we got busy. We want most, if not all of the decor to be made from recycled materials, cos we all know there is enough material and resources already, without having to buy any more and add to what will later become landfill. I'm going to make some flags, 8 in total, 4 with hearts and 4 with the pirate skull and cross bones on them. But I didn't focus on them today.
Jelly Fish, I must say, I do enjoy making jelly fish. Finding different frames in which to create upon. One is the metal covers over fans, which are very sturdy and we managed to find a few by the bins. Old lamp shades as well. Yesterday I made one out of a inner tube, which I stuffed to keep it's shape. I then wrapped it in some red material and sewed that into place. Then I done some weaving with some cotton string, making a web in the middle and the perfect place to hang their stingers from. Then I cut up old material into long strips, which you can see from the photo up above. I reckon it will look good hung in one of the main tents. he gold top one, I made previously, from a metal fan cover.
Then we spend some time on the festival signs. Two car bonnets, which we cleaned and put a base colour on and yes, two head boards, which we painted purple. Each of the main areas will need two signs. One which will show the schedule and the other, which will be used to direct people to the area, We also had some wooden boards, from last year, which we will spruce up. I really enjoyed it and it's made me realise how I really do need to make more space for being creative. It's just so much fun. We'll be meeting up weekly from now on. The flags I'll be making at home, so that will be keeping me busy for sure, but I will share them here once they are made. Till then ARRRRRRR..........
(All phots are mine, taken by me yesterday.)
