Proof is usually in the pudding but tan lines work just as well in Southern Cali. Growing up, I wasn't the biggest fan of flip-flops or flojos as we like to call them. Though I did usually own a pair, I'd quickly outgrow them and they didn't fit my lifestyle.
Nowadays if I'm not working, you'll rarely see me wearing a pair of shoes. Unfortunately, I can't keep my feet close to naked all the time. That's where the work boots come in handy.
I have two pairs of boots that do the job while working to test concrete. Out in the field there are lots of form boards with nails and you have to be careful.
The steel toe boots below, though worn, stop a nice size nail from penetrating too far through the sole. They're good in the summer when the ground is dry and Dr Scholl's inserts make them somewhat comfortable.
Deck Boots Or Muddy Rain Boots
For fishing offshore, anglers need a boot that both protects and keeps their feet dry. After working concrete through the rainy season, I found they are more than suitable for the subsequent muddy conditions.
These Extra Tuf boots may not offer the steel toe protection, but they hold up well. Having a thick sole, they offer some protection against nails and the rubber lining is tough. I either switch out the Dr Scholl's inserts or buy an extra pair for added comfort.
On Route To Work Or Shoes Mandatory
There are those times when not working that I just can't get away with wearing flip-flops. One example is the drive to work. Socks are a must to go with the boots and I can't wear them with flojos. People do the sock flip-flop routine but to me, it ruins the purpose.
So what's the next step down from wearing close to nothing in comfort? Sketchers on the Go! My old pair is still holding up well, though I was looking for some new ones last holiday season. Alas, I couldn't find the size and style I prefer.
Nothing Beats Flip-Flops - Proof Below
All my bold statements about how much time my feet spend in open luxury mean nothing without some form of proof. It's all just talk. As we often say when fishermen tell tales about the one that got away, "If you don't have pictures, it didn't happen!"
I wouldn't want to be called out for spinning a long threaded tale so here goes nothing. You may need to avert your eyes from the blinding tan-less areas.
Looks like an eclipse! And the contrast is only going to get worse as the summer wears on...
