Don't we all have one or two assumptions about those around us? Sometimes these assumptions are true and sometimes they are not. You get close to someone and you begin to assume they are very happy, rich, or broke, whereas they may not be. They might just be the opposite of what we assume.
Allow me to make money, I need it as much as anyone else
As for me, there is just one assumption I really wish people would stop having against me. In fact, not just about me, but about young ladies. Who tells you women don't need money? In this part of the world, we hear things like, Are you not a lady? Why do you have to look for money this hard? Do you forget your husband will be taking care of everything once you are married? Ladies, this statement sounds very harmless and true but believe me, it's a trap. Don't fall for it.
As a lady, I need money just as much as anyone else. Don't be deceived by this dangerous assumption. I do tell ladies, when you don't have your own money, you can't be free. In fact, you can't go after a man you truly love, as you will always be chasing after men who you think can solve your financial problems.
First they said I don't need to work for money, then they believe I can never get broke because I'm a lady
Chai, like I can whip my feminine fingers through an ATM machine, smile to it's Camara, command it, and it will start giving me money. Or my husband's salary comes in tenfold just because he has a wife at home.
Sometimes I wonder why people make such a cruel assumption, even when they know it's not true. Back when I was a student, sometimes I heard talks like, Oh, why do you have to study this hard? After all, even when you graduate, you don't have to work for money. You can simply get married and your husband will be sorting everything out financially. Really? 😏
Why do they say things like this? Thank goodness I never fell for such a dangerous assumption. As a lady, there is pride in making your own money legitimately. There is joy in spending from your hard-earned money. There is respect when I don't have to rely on my husband before I can spend every dime I have to. So please don't be deceived. Take this from someone who is married, and any married woman out there will tell you the same if they really want to be honest.
I simply don't know why some people pretend it doesn't cost so much money to raise a family, and that a large percentage of men can handle the financial responsibility involved even if they wanted to. Even if they have been told and programmed all their life to do so, it's not that easy for them. So they need our help to support the family a lot of the time, and when this help is not coming from his lady, there might be money problems in the home.
The other day, I read a comment on a lady's post who was complaining about how her place of work is underpaying her, and this comment — from a married man whom you would have thought would know better — goes like, "Well, you are married now, you don't have to worry about making money any longer, your husband will be taking care of everything."
O boy, I just shook my head and passed that comment, because if I should start dragging words with him, it might not end well.
This lady just wants to earn decent money to support herself and her family, and you just assume she doesn't need to. Who do you assume her husband to be? A billionaire? Oh dear good Lord, my stomach hurts at the sight of such comments.
Do you have an idea of how many married women are frustrated right now just because they are not making money of their own? I see them most of the time, and I just feel bad for them letting themselves be deceived by this dangerous assumption.
Dear ladies, most especially my single ladies, make your own money, enjoy yourself, and be with a man you genuinely love and not just because of his money.
They said there is dignity in labour; this quote applies to everyone regardless of your gender. So please don't be deceived by any dangerous assumption that was meant to entrap and enslave you. Be wise and rightly guided. But then, I know my ladies on Hive are rightly guided when it comes to having their own money 🤑 hehe.
Okay, guys, let me drop the 🎤 here and just hope that I have said this loud enough that even those in the back seat will hear me.
