I have different personalities and qualities I look out for in a friend, and honestly, I think it’s because friendship means a lot to me. Personally, I don’t really like people who take life too seriously all the time. Of course, life requires us to be focused and disciplined, but I believe there should be a balance. I like people who know how to have fun, laugh, and enjoy the moment, yet still know when it’s time to be serious. That balance matters to me a lot because it makes spending time with them enjoyable. I can easily vibe with someone who’s playful but still has a sense of responsibility.
For instance, as students, we all know we’re supposed to attend classes, read, and focus on our academics, but then, there are also times when we just need to relax and enjoy ourselves. I believe life shouldn’t be all about schoolwork and stress. Sometimes, it’s those little breaks—going out, hanging out with friends, cracking jokes, or just having random conversations—that make life beautiful. So, when I meet someone who only focuses on academics and doesn’t really care about socializing or creating memories outside the classroom, I find it hard to connect with them. It’s not like I don’t respect their lifestyle, but for me, friendship is also about having shared experiences beyond the classroom.
At the same time, I still like people who are smart and intelligent. I truly believe there’s a way friends influence a person —both consciously and unconsciously. When you move with intelligent people, it naturally reflects on you, too. You start thinking differently, making better decisions, and even seeing life from a more mature perspective. So, when I’m choosing my friends, I also look for people who can challenge me intellectually and motivate me to be better. I don’t want to be surrounded by people who aren’t adding any kind of value to my life.
Another thing I really value in friendship is support. I like friends who are willing to lend a helping hand when you need them the most. To me, friendship is not just about jokes and fun moments, but also about being there for each other during difficult times. I believe no one has it all figured out. There will always be moments when you need help, advice, or even just someone to talk to. So, having friends who are genuinely caring, supportive, and reliable means a lot to me.
In short, I like friends who can balance fun with seriousness, who are smart enough to influence me positively, and who have a good heart that’s willing to help others. With people like that around, life just feels easier, lighter, and more meaningful.
