When I think of friends school gave me, there is always one particular coursemate of mine I can't forget in a hurry. It's been since 2013 since we graduated, and out of the many friends I got those days, one stands out. Maybe because of how we met, I don't know, but our friendship has been there even though we are all in our different families, building our homes, raising our children with our spouses.
Now, to think that this friend is disabled and a male too, you may understand that he isn't my friend because of anything but because of his personality; aside from that, he is not physically fit.Now talking about this friend, I met him in a painful situation as a sick student who couldn't walk nor help himself.
I was touched and couldn't help but show empathy. I imagined myself being in his shoes, and tears rolled down my cheeks. In my capacity, I decided to assist him in going back home so he can be taken care of. He spent almost one month at home treating himself, and I made sure to keep in touch all along.
When he returned, he was very grateful for the concerns I showed towards his health and recovery, and from there, we started being close friends. This guy is so disabled that he can't stand for minutes without looking for where to sit. I didn't look down on him because of his physical condition but rather showed him care, and then I began to discover that he is too good with practicals in our course of study.
I discovered in our second year when we were always doing practices while we met in year one. On my end, I was struggling with practicals so badly, but this friend will always make sure that I am okay with my projects. He taught me more than our lecturer; he devoted his time and energy always putting me through, and months after months, I kept getting better.
During our practical exams, he would always keep an eye to be sure I was doing it right, and of course I was grateful. I was super good on the theory aspect of our course too and assisted him as well with that. Before you know it, we were done with school and all graduated with first-class upper division.
As expected, he was there live during my wedding; he crossed different states just to attend and I introduced him to my husband, and they became friends. Today he is married too, with two boys, and my self and his wife and kids have been family friends, always checking on each other about life so far after school, family, parenting, and more. What a unique friend indeed. Unfortunately, our picture together was printed and in my father's house, not with me currently.
