At times, people assume things about us that are not really true, maybe from their perception of us or from what they see or think. But to some extent, these cannot be changed, because we do not and cannot control how people think, and we cannot control their perception of us. We can only influence it to a little extent.
Personally, people have two different assumptions about me, and I feel it is because of how I act and relate with people. Some people think that I am too serious. This is because, before I start interacting or relating with people, I study them well to know their character, what they like, and what they dislike. This helps me know how to relate with them without having any issues. Now, if I act too official with people, it means I have observed that person to be a serious type also. So, to avoid crossing boundaries or stepping on anybody's toes, I will act the way you behave.
On the other hand, some people see me as a very playful, funny, jovial person. Well, I know I am playful to some extent, but I have my own serious time which I do not want anybody to joke with. I remember a friend of mine telling me, "Nsisong, the only problem I have with you is not knowing when you are serious, because you like playing, you do not take a lot of things too serious." I smiled and told her that this country is difficult already, so we should not take things too personal to avoid having high blood pressure. I also told her that I am a very serious type, but the thing is, do not mix business with pleasure. Also, I play with those who are free and ready to play, because in my dialect we say, "Mbre isikaha ino abob iso Owo."
Again, I function well and perfectly when I have a free mind, peace of mind, and when I am happy. That is why I can be doing a serious thing playfully and still achieve a better result.
So, when people think that I am a very serious type, and others think I am a very playful type, it all depends on them and the angle they know me from. To me, I am just a free-minded person that does not need too much drama.
