Good day, people of Hive! Welcome to my blog. Today's topic is from Hive Student Connect which says:Things School Never Taught Me but Life Eventually Did. So let's dive in.
Honestly, growing up, I really thought that school was everything. I used to feel like once I studied hard, passed my tests and exams, and had good grades, then I’m set for life because of what I heard—that school will teach us everything we need to know. But as time went on and I started facing real life, I realized school didn’t teach me everything I needed to know. School just made us gain knowledge and be able to read and write, and also know the difference between good and bad.
One thing life taught me is patience. In school, things are easy to understand because our lecturers bring it down for us so that we can all understand what he or she is teaching. In school, we read, write tests and exams, and after a few months, we see our results whether we pass or fail. But life is not like that at all. In life, we can try our best, put in all our effort, and still see no results immediately. Sometimes we have to wait, and that waiting is not easy. It can even make us feel tired, but that waiting teaches us patience and that we should not rush into doing things we might regret later.
Another thing life taught me is how to handle disappointment. In school, if we fail, we just have to try again. But in life, disappointment can be painful. It can come from people, from things not working out, or from opportunities we really wanted. At first, disappointment can make us feel sad and unhappy, but as time goes on, we learn to accept it and move on.
Another thing life taught me is relationships. School didn’t really teach us that part. We just meet people and make friends, but nobody tells us that not everyone will stay. Just like a Yoruba adage that says: Ogun omode kole ṣeré fun ogun ọdún. Meaning: the friends we play with as children, we can’t keep playing together forever because as we grow up, everyone goes their separate ways.
Some people will hurt us, some will leave us, and some will change. One thing I have learned is to understand people and not expect too much from everyone, just to protect my peace.
Also, life taught me how to handle and understand responsibility. In school, there is always someone guiding us, either our lecturers our parents. But in real life, we are the ones to decide for ourselves. Nobody will tell us what to do all the time. And whatever decision we make, we will face the result or consequences. That alone teaches us to be careful.
Another major thing life taught me is that life is not always fair. Sometimes we can do everything right and still not get what we want. It can be painful, but it teaches us to be strong and keep going no matter what.
In conclusion, school gave me knowledge, like how to read, write, and understand things, but life taught me real lessons—the kind of lessons I can never forget in my life. Life is really a great teacher because if we’re not careful, it will teach us lessons we never imagined.
