Most of my friends today are people I met in school, from my secondary school and my tertiary school days, with whom we are very close to date. Today I will be writing about someone I met at the University.
I met Jamiu during my first days at school; we were both 100-level freshers posted to the same hall. Jamiu was a tall boy from Kogi State. He was a law student, very curious and eager to know everything. You would say Jamiu was talkative because he talks a lot and very fast. He was a very friendly boy and a good conversationalist. Because he was well-informed, he rarely entered any room without being able to contribute to the discussion.
I could remember some time ago when we were coming from a friend's wedding, and his car developed a fault in the same place where another vehicle also developed a fault. I left them to get water, and coming back, I saw them already bonding. One who was passing by will say that they were friends for a long time.
Since I was more of a person that talks less and listen more, my friendship with Jamiu was a magnet in the sense that any gathering that requires us to talk a lot, I had jamiu that will make me not feel compelled to say much, he will connect perfectly with others and we automatically become friends, most people I knew outside my department then was because of the influence of Jamiu in my life. Aside from our classes, we did basically everything together. He made me find interest in going to school every evening to study. When my first result was not good, it was Jamiu who encouraged me and advised me to study harder and also to attend tutorials.
The first time I visited Kogi state was with Jamiu, this was a few years after we had graduated from school. It was the first time Jamiu would be driving that distance, and he was very excited about the journey. We were going to supervise his building project in the capital city of Kogi state. As usual, Jamiu will talk all the way from the start of the journey to when we get to our destination. It was a two-hour journey, and as such, we had no stops before we got to our destination.
Jamiu’s influence on me will be getting me to talk more often. I used to be a quiet person, but whenever I was with Jamiu, I usually talked more since he likes it when the other person responds to his conversation with words. To date, Jamiu is one of my closest friends, and he falls in the category of people I refer to as my best friends.
My name is , and this is my response to the Hive student week 40 prompt, Title: “MY SCHOOL-GIVEN FRIEND”.
