Hoy les quiero compartir la historia de cómo surgió y de cómo se llevó a cabo la idea hacer una presentación musical que sería una sorpresa en la fiesta más importante del año 2011. Por supuesto, me refiero al evento que en el paracaidismo de México conocemos como el “Boogie de Año Nuevo”, en el evento más importante del paracaidismo en México. Este evento se lleva a cabo cada año en Skydive Puerto Escondido, Playa Zicatela en el estado de Oaxaca.

Today I want to share with you the story of how the idea of making a music show that would be a surprise at the most important party of the year 2011 came about and how it was carried out. Of course, I am writing about the "New Year's Boogie", the most important skydiving event in Mexico. This event takes place every year at Skydive Puerto Escondido, Playa Zicatela in the state of Oaxaca.

Palomazo
Un domingo normal en la zona de salto, mientras esperábamos el siguiente vuelo, salió el palomazo. En el área de empaque de los paracaídas teníamos una guitarra eléctrica y una acústica. Naturalmente empecé a tocar y practicar canciones. En ese momento y de manera espontánea, se acercó Sergio O’ Farrill a tocar la segunda guitarra y cantar una canción. La canción que ambos sabíamos y que salió en ese momento fue “What I Got” de Sublime..
En el mundo del paracaidismo, conocemos a Sergio como “El Azul”, apodo que se ganó en sus comienzos como paracaidista por tener el cabello pintado en ese tono.
Yo sabía del talento y de la gran trayectoria musical de El Azul pero fue muy interesante interactuar también musicalmente con el. Sergio es bastante conocido en México e internacionalmente ya que es miembro de un grupo musical muy famoso que se llama Kabah. Este grupo Mexicano se formó en el año de 1992 y fue en el en donde Sergio hizo su debut musical a la edad de 14.
On a normal Sunday in the drop zone, while we were waiting for the next flight, the jam started. In the parachute packing area we had an electric guitar and an acoustic guitar. Naturally I started playing and practicing songs. At that moment and spontaneously, Sergio O' Farrill came up to play the second guitar and sing a song. The song that we both knew and played that day was "What I Got" by Sublime.
In the skydiving world, we know Sergio as "El Azul," a nickname he earned in his early skydiving days for having his hair painted in that shade.
I knew of Azul's talent and great musical background, but it was very interesting to interact with him musically as well. Sergio is well known in Mexico and internationally as he is a member of a very famous musical group called Kabah. This Mexican group was formed in 1992 and it was in this group that Sergio made his musical debut at the age of 14.
Por algún tiempo, yo tenía la idea y las ganas de tocar en la fusta de Año Nuevo en Puerto Escondido, sin embargo no sabía exactamente como lo haría. Así que la noche de aquel domingo después de los saltos, le comenté al Azul acerca de la idea y lo invité a tocar conmigo. Con gran gusto y con una sonrisa, accedió y fue entonces en cuanto comenzamos a ponernos de acuerdo en que canciones presentaríamos.
For some time, I had the idea and the desire to play at the New Year's Eve Boogie in Puerto Escondido, however I didn't know exactly how I would do it. So that Sunday night after the jumps, I told Azul about the idea and invited him to play with me. With great pleasure and a smile, he agreed and it was then that we began to plan the performance.
Después de ensayar las canciones cada quien por su cuenta, decidimos ensayar todos los días de la semana previa al evento después del salto del atardecer en Puerto Escondido.

Permítanme platicarles una anécdota bastante graciosa. Como decidimos mantener en secreto los ensayos por que queríamos que la presentación fuera una sorpresa, nadie sabía en donde estábamos El Azul y yo al final del día y los rumores comenzaron. Se decía que el y yo nos escapábamos al final del día para ir a fumar marihuana a la playa. ¡Sin embargo, ninguno de los dos fumamos!
After rehearsing the songs on our own, we decided to rehearse every day of the week prior to the event after the sunset jumps in Puerto Escondido.
Let me tell you a funny story. Since we decided to keep the rehearsals secret because we wanted the presentation to be a surprise, no one knew where El Azul and I were at the end of the day and the rumors started. It was said that he and I would sneak out at the end of the day to go to the beach to smoke pot, but neither of us smokes!
