When I was born my mother had adopted religious beliefs in which it was not common to celebrate Christmas, therefore I was not raised with those December customs; I will always say that I had a happy childhood, more or less when I was 9 years old at my grandmother's house it was that I began to appreciate those Christmas celebrations, but it was not something that changed my life, not anything, it was simply a way to create that bond of union within the family. Cuando yo nací mi mamá había adoptado unas creencias religiosas en las cuales no era algo común celebrar la navidad, por lo tanto yo no fui criado con esas costumbres decembrinas; siempre diré que tuve un infancia feliz, mas o menos cuando tenía 9 años en la casa de mi abuela fue que comencé a apreciar esos festejos navideños, pero tampoco fue algo que me cambió la vida ni nada, simplemente fue una manera de crear ese lazo de unión dentro de la familia.
Today I no longer care about that December business system, but it is now a custom to go on Christmas Eve and say goodbye to the year at my grandmother's house with the family. Hoy en día ya no me importa nada de ese sistema comercial decembrino, pero ya es una costumbre ir en la noche buena y despedir el año en casa de mi abuela con la familia.
I remember that this house was full of energy every good night because of so much vitality that there was, because we were many children at that time, in almost the entire block there were contemporary children my age; This year there are only my two godchildren bored because they don't have other children around to play with. Recuerdo que esta casa cada noche buena abundaba de energía por tanta vitalidad que había, porque éramos muchos niños en ese entonces en casi toda la cuadra habían niños contemporáneos a mi edad; este año solo estan mis dos ahijados aburridos porque no tienen otros niños cerca con quiénes poder jugar.
Already the children of those Christmases grew up, now we are all old men with ailments adapting to the constant changes in life, but always keeping the family together. Ya los niños de aquellas navidades crecieron, ahora somos todos unos viejos con achaques adaptándonos a los cambios constantes de la vida, pero siempre manteniendo a la familia unida.
I arrived after they had already eaten, but they served me my dinner anyway, everything was delicious; We always meet to do the Hallacas together, but this year as I am doing a construction in the house I could not come to help as always, lately I have had my hands swollen from the construction work; for this year I rest from my work of tying the Hallacas. Yo llegue despues de que ya habían cenado, pero igual me sirvieron mi cena, todo estaba buenísimo; siempre nos reunimos para hacer las hallacas juntos, pero este año como estoy haciendo una construcción en la casa no pude venir ayudar como siempre, últimamente he tenido las manos hinchadas por el trabajo de construcción; por este año descanso de mi labor de amarrar las hallacas.
As is traditional in the family, we exchanged gifts from secret friends with each other; This year the dynamic was very fun and everyone was satisfied with their gifts; In the past there was always a character who did not respect the rules and someone received a gift with a lower budget than we had established. Como es de tradición en la familia hicimos un intercambio de regalos de amigos secretos entre nosotros; este año la dinámica fue muy divertida y todos quedaron satisfechos con sus regalos; en el pasado siempre había un personaje que no respetaba las reglas y alguien recibía un regalo de menos presupuesto del que habíamos establecido.
Between jokes and laughter accompanied by alcoholic drink, we spent the whole morning sharing, drinking and eating, we even danced for a crazy hour 😅. Entre chistes y risas acompañados de bebidas alcohólicas pasamos toda la madrugada compartiendo, bebiendo y comiendo, hasta bailamos una hora loca 😅.
This is what I enjoy about these December holidays, being able to see my sisters and brothers, my cousins, my family together sharing full of happiness and love.
