Hello Hive Bangladesh community members
Today in my blog I'm going to share the observes historic 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib.
This speech of Bangabandhu on March 7 is one of the most time-honoured speeches in the world. That is why UNESCO has recognized this speech as an important documentary heritage of the world. The March 7 speech is compared to Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg speech. The role of this speech in our war of independence is undeniable.
Let's talk a little about the context of the historic March 7th speech. In 1947, a country called Pakistan was born. We Bengalis get East Pakistan. But since the creation of Pakistan, Bengalis have been subjected to all kinds of oppression and deprivation. We had no democratic rights.
In the 23 years since the creation of Pakistan, no general elections have been held. When the first National Assembly elections were held in Pakistan in December 1970, the Awami League-led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman won 18 out of 300 seats. The Pakistan People's Party, led by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, won 63 seats. Although the Awami League won the elections in a democratic way, the Pakistani exploitative group did not accept it. They started Talbahana in the name of handing overpower.
Although the National Assembly was scheduled to convene on March 3, 1971, it was postponed to March 1. Bangabandhu understands that the Pakistani ruling class will not leave power in the hands of the Bengalis, they are conspiring. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman called a strike in Dhaka on March 2 and a nationwide strike on March 3 to protest the adjournment of the session. On the same day, he announced that he would give a speech on March 8 at the racecourse ground. Bangabandhu told reporters that day, “My people are with me. We want a peaceful solution. We hope for the good, but we are also ready for the bad. The struggle for the rights of the people will continue. No sacrifice is great for the liberation of the people of Bangladesh. ”
The common man had already imagined that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would guide the nation in his speech on March 7. Though Bangabandhu was supposed to give a speech in the afternoon, thousands of people from all over the country gathered at the racecourse ground in the morning. Ordinary people join the public meeting on foot in the districts adjacent to Dhaka. Many thought that Bangabandhu would directly declare independence on this day. On March 7, the Telegraph reported, "Sheikh Mujibur Rahman may unilaterally declare the independence of East Pakistan tomorrow." Then Bengalis will not get international support and recognition. That is why Bangabandhu gave a speech on March 7 in front of 1 million people like a wise leader. He started his speech at 2:15 and ended at 3: 3.
In his speech, he called for preparations for the war of independence and said, "Build forts in every house." "We have to deal with the enemy with whatever we have." "This time the struggle is for our liberation, this time the struggle is for freedom." In this way, Bangabandhu declared independence in front of millions of people.
The speech on March 7 highlighted the history of 23 years of oppression of Bengalis by the Pakistani rulers. It has been said about the hopes and expectations of the people of Bengal. He said at the beginning of his speech, ‘The people of Bengal want liberation, the people of Bengal want to live, the people of Bengal want rights.’ But the Pakistani rulers do not consider the people of Bengal as human beings, they want to keep them as slaves. Bangabandhu said Bengalis were shot in the chest with a weapon bought with Bengali money. He does not want the Prime Minister of Pakistan, he wants the rights of the people of Bengal.
In this speech, he also aimed that the movement should not harm the poor, hardworking and industrious people. He said, "I want to make it clear that from today, courts, courts, criminal and educational institutions in Bangladesh will be closed indefinitely. All other things are there so that the poor do not suffer so that my people do not suffer, the strike will not continue from tomorrow. Rickshaws, bullock carts will run, trains will run, launches will run; Only Secretariat, Supreme Court, High Court, Judge Court, Semi-Government Departments, WAPDA will not do anything. The employees will bring their salaries on the 28th. ” The people later respect this order of Bangabandhu letter by letter.
Bangabandhu further said, "And if a shot is fired, and if my people are killed, my request to you is - build forts in every house."
"You have to deal with the enemy with everything you have, and everything you have on the road to life, if I can't give orders, you will stop. You are my brother, you stay in the barracks, no one will tell you anything. But don't try to shoot me in the chest anymore. We can't keep seven crore people under control. When we learn to die, no one can stop us. ”
