Durante algún tiempo he sido testigo de una serie de acontecimientos en mi entorno que son lamentables, ocurren como consecuencias de que personas cercanas actúan equivocadamente basadas en lo poco que saben, es decir, hacen las cosas sin informarse previamente. Me he puesto a la disposición de estas personas en múltiples ocasiones, pero prefieren confiar en otros, que lo que han hecho es guiarlos a más errores, mi madre se refería a este tipo de casos como 'un ciego guiando a otros ciego'.
For some time now, I’ve witnessed a series of unfortunate events in my environment, occurring as a consequence of people close to me acting wrongly based on their limited knowledge—in other words, doing things without prior research. I’ve made myself available to these people on multiple occasions, but they prefer to trust others who have only led them further into error. My mother used to refer to these kinds of situations as “the blind leading the blind.”
Estoy claro que todo el mundo debe ganar experiencia y eso solo pasa cuando nos equivocamos, pero si cometes los mismos errores una y otras vez y no eres capaz de rectificar, algo pasa contigo. En cada una de las responsabilidades que he recibido en mi vida, mi gran temor al principio siempre fue equivocarme, esa es la manera de pensar de un joven inexperto, luego entiendes que te puedes equivocar, pero siempre y cuando no dejes de intentarlo hacerlo bien capacitandote siempre.
I understand that everyone needs to gain experience, and that only happens when we make mistakes, but if you make the same mistakes over and over and aren’t able to rectify them, something is wrong. In every responsibility I’ve taken on in my life, my greatest fear at the beginning was always making mistakes. That’s the way an inexperienced young person thinks. Later, you understand that you can make mistakes, as long as you don’t stop trying to do things right by constantly improving yourself.

He llegado a pensar que este tipo de actitud debe ser por algo patológico, porque cada vez que habló con este tipo de personas una de las respues que más recibo, cuando les das un consejo de como hacer lo correcto es: 'Si, yo se eso', pero hacen lo contrario. Por eso creo que di con el estudio que califica este tipo de comportamiento, se conoce como el efecto Dunning-Kruger, el cual define a las personas que creen saber mas de lo que realmente conocen.
I’ve come to think that this kind of attitude must be due to something pathological because every time I talk to these kinds of people, one of the most common responses I get when I give them advice on how to do the right thing is: “Yes, I know that,” but they do the opposite. That’s why I think I came across the study that classifies this type of behavior; it’s known as the Dunning-Kruger effect, which defines people who think they know more than they actually do.

Son ese tipo de personas que tiene una opinión para todo, en toda conversación tiene algo que decir, pero su conocimiento se basa quizás en un video Tik Tok donde mencionaron el tema. Pero también ocurre lo contrario, hay personas que saben mucho pero se subestiman a sí mismas, esas también caben dentro de este efecto.
I’m sure you know people like this; it’s so common that of course there had to be a scientific study about it. They’re the kind of people who have an opinion on everything, they have something to say in every conversation, but their knowledge is perhaps based on a TikTok video where the topic was mentioned. But the opposite also occurs; there are people who know a lot but underestimate themselves. They also fall within this effect.
Investigando un poco mas me sorprendio que hay formas de evaluar cuando una persona padece este efecto. Me recordó una frase que mi mamá me repitió varias veces para mantenerme siempre abierto aprender, ella me decía: el que crea que esta bien parado que se siente. Cito a mi madre con esta frase porque una de las preguntas que puede hacerse a una persona para saber si es víctima de este efecto es: ¿Crees que puedes aprender mucho mas de lo que sabes?
Investigating a little further, I was surprised that there are ways to evaluate when a person suffers from this effect. It reminded me of a phrase my mother repeated to me several times to keep me always open to learning. She used to say, “Whoever thinks they’re standing firm should sit down.” I quote my mother with this phrase because one of the questions that can be asked of a person to know if they are a victim of this effect is: “Do you think you can learn much more than you know?”
El estudio señala que hay personas que no son capaces de reconocer que son menos hábiles o son menos calificadas. Esto se ve en muchos ámbitos de la vida diaria, ni hablar de las empresas o sitios de trabajo, como confían dinero a personas que dicen ser capaces y nunca dan resultados. Esto me hace recordar mis comienzos en la blockchain, asistía a eventos en línea donde se hablaba de algún proyecto, yo me leía el whitepaper para hacer preguntas, saber cuál era el estatus del roadmap. Terminaba sorprendido como los ponentes o representantes del proyecto no sabían nada, evadían las preguntas o daban respuestas redundantes, un de tantos ejemplos del efecto Dunning-Kruger.
The study points out that there are people who are not able to recognize that they are less skilled or less qualified. This is seen in many areas of daily life, not to mention companies or workplaces, how they entrust money to people who claim to be capable and never deliver results. This reminds me of my beginnings in blockchain. I attended online events where a project was discussed. I read the whitepaper to ask questions, to know what the status of the roadmap was. I ended up surprised at how the speakers or project representatives knew nothing. They evaded the questions or gave redundant answers, one of many examples of the Dunning-Kruger effect.
