Buenos Aires: La Hoja Azul // The Blue Sheet || STORY & PHOTOS

Mucho de lo que nos ha pasado en éste tercer viaje a la Argentina ha sido mágico. Fuera de nuestro accidentado vuelo desde Caracas (Uno y dos), pasando por nuestra experiencia en LABITCONF (el evento sobre criptomonedas más grande de latinoamérica), han sido casi cuatro meses maravillosos. Pero siempre existirá algo inesperado o incómodo en cualquier viaje, dada la naturaleza misma de desarraigo temporal respecto del lugar donde resides. Para colocar a nuestro amado lector en contexto, uno de los objetivos de nuestra larga estadía en la Argentina era atender las dos citas en la embajada estadounidense, diligencia que hicimos el lunes 10 próximo pasado para entregar nuestras huellas dactilares en el CAS (Centro de atención al solicitante); completaríamos Hive account@aventurerasbike y éste servidor atendiendo la entrevista con la embajada el día viernes 14. Otra parte del contexto tiene que ver con la actualidad respecto a como está manejando el problema migratorio, el recién empoderado gobierno gringo, tal como es de dominio público.

Much of what has happened to us on this third trip to Argentina has been magical. Out of our bumpy flight from Caracas (One and two), through our experience at LABITCONF (the largest cryptocurrency event in Latin America), it has been almost four wonderful months. But there will always be something unexpected or uncomfortable about any trip, given the very nature of temporary uprooting from the place where you reside. To put our beloved reader in context, one of the objectives of our long stay in Argentina was to attend the two appointments at the U.S. Embassy, which we did on Monday the 10th to deliver our fingerprints at the CAS (Applicant Service Center) and we would complete Hive account@aventurerasbike and this server attending the interview with the embassy on Friday the 14th. Another part of the context has to do with the current situation regarding how the newly empowered gringo government is handling the immigration problem, as it is public knowledge.

Para comprender más el problema tenemos que partir de una premisa inicial indiscutible: "Cada país tiene la potestad decisiva e irrenunciable de cuales extranjeros aprueban para otorgar una visa de turismo" Así de simple. Bien. Pero (bendito pero), quizás nuestro caso -y es aquí donde queremos expresar frustración- era plausible de ser aprobado. Nuestro historial de viajes a esa nación se remonta al año 1992, con una infinidad de entradas y salidas, jamás desatendiendo las limitaciones de estadía otorgada por el funcionario migratorio en cada una de esas oportunidades donde fuimos favorecidos. Además, poseemos los medios económicos para mantener los costos de viaje (sabemos que U.S.A. puede resultar caro) y además, poseemos dos propiedades inmobiliarias en dos países (Panamá y Venezuela) lo que podría desincentivar nuestra potencial inmigración allá (NADIE en su sano juicio, se iría a otro país donde le toque arrendar un inmueble para establecerse).

To understand the problem better, we have to start from an indisputable initial premise: “Each country has the decisive and unwaivable power to decide which foreigners are approved to grant a tourist visa. Good. But (blessed but), perhaps our case - and this is where we want to express frustration - was plausible for approval. Our history of travel to that nation dates back to 1992, with an infinity of entries and exits, never disregarding the limitations of stay granted by the immigration officer in each of those opportunities where we were favored. In addition, we have the economic means to maintain the travel costs (we know that the U.S.A. can be expensive) and also, we own two real estate properties in two countries (Panama and Venezuela) which could discourage our potential immigration there (NO ONE in their right mind, would go to another country where they have to rent a property to settle down).

Entregado todo el contexto, contamos nuestra experiencia. El lunes 10 de febrero 2025 fuimos a la cita para compartir nuestras huellas dactilares y la foto de rigor. Todo salió bien. El CAS (Centro de Atención al Solicitante) es un sitio muy organizado y en menos de 30 minutos habíamos cumplido con el primer paso del proceso. Y llegó el viernes 14 de febrero del 2025 (Día de San Valentín, para más inri); nos levantamos temprano para atender la entrevista personal a las 09:00 a.m. en la embajada de los EE.UU. ubicada en la Av. Colombia 4300 de Buenos Aires. Jamás fuimos sorprendidos por el orden en el sitio. Tal organización nos hizo recordar una materia en nuestra carrera de ingeniería llamada "Investigación de Operaciones" donde se estudiaba la manera de gestionar flujos de personas en ambientes abiertos o cerrados. Y todo fluyó cuál influjo marcial en el camino hacia la ventanilla de la entrevista, desde la entrada al recinto. Si nos fijamos en algo durante el movimiento de personas: quienes salían de la embajada y llevaban su pasaporte junto con una hoja azul, era quienes habían sido objeto de denegación de la visa.

With all the context provided, we recounted our experience. On Monday, February 10, 2025, we went to the appointment to share our fingerprints and the required photo. Everything went well. The CAS (Centro de Atención al Solicitante) is a very organized place and in less than 30 minutes we had completed the first step of the process. And then came Friday, February 14, 2025 (Valentine's Day, for good measure); we got up early to attend the personal interview at 09:00 a.m. at the U.S. Embassy located at 4300 Colombia Avenue in Buenos Aires. We were never surprised by the order on site. Such organization reminded us of a subject in our engineering career called “Operations Research” where we studied how to manage the flow of people in open or closed environments. And it all flowed like a martial flow on the way to the interview window, from the entrance to the site. If we noticed something during the movement of people: those who were leaving the embassy and carrying their passport with a blue sheet were those who had been denied a Visa.

Hive account@aventurerasbike y éste redactor anduvimos de muy buen talante hasta que nos tocó estar en la ventanilla. Por supuesto nos reservaremos las palabras intercambiadas con el funcionario encargado de nuestra entrevista, pero sí veíamos tecleaba sin cesar cuando él preguntaba y nosotros respondíamos. Jamás hubo conexión visual alguna durante ese paso. Creemos que se encontraba predispuesto ¿La razón? Tenía un tapabocas colocado cuando el resto de sus compañeros (4 funcionarios adicionales entrevistando) trabajaban con el rostro descubierto. Al final de todo, nos entrega la temida hoja azul y la frase: "Su visa es negada" Quedamos estupefactos ¿Cómo era posible aquello? Sin decir nada, ni preguntar nada, nos fuimos de allí. Demás está decir los sentimientos que nos invadieron ¿Jugó en contra tener dos hijos allá bajo la figura de asilo? Nunca lo sabremos. Por ahora, solo queda acusar el golpe y dejar pasar el tiempo hasta que las aguas vuelvan a su cauce.
