Hello Hivers friends and members of Catarsis, hoping that you have an excellent afternoon, I am about to tell you an anecdote that has given me back hope and faith in the Human Being.
Resulta que hace varias semanas había puesto un anuncio en un sitio de Clasificados, dónde pretendía comprar un lector de libros electrónico Kindle o de cualquier marca, pues en la renta dónde me encuentro no puedo acumular libros y leer en la PC me está afectando mucho la visión.
It turns out that several weeks ago I had placed an ad on a Classifieds site, where I wanted to buy a Kindle e-book reader or any brand, because when I rent where I am I cannot accumulate books and reading on the PC is affecting my vision.
Ya casi me había dado por vencido cuando en la noche de ayer alguien se contacta conmigo a través de WhatsApp. El muchacho me dice que tiene un Kindle Paperwhite, pero no sabía qué precio pedir por él. Yo tampoco sabía cuánto podría ofrecer y sinceramente estando a mediados de mes, no podía tener un gasto que seguramente superaba los $5000 pesos cubanos o $50 dólares según el cambio actual.
I had almost given up when last night someone contacted me through WhatsApp. The guy tells me that he has a Kindle Paperwhite, but he didn't know what price to ask for it. I also did not know how much I could offer and honestly being in the middle of the month, I could not have an expense that surely exceeded $5000 Cuban pesos or $50 dollars according to the current exchange rate.
Pero el desconocido me dijo que su único interés era que quien lo tuviese, le diera uso y no fuera alguien que iba a tirarlo a un costado o venderlo más adelante. Yo le comenté que era escritor y por las dificultades que estaba pasando. Entonces para mi sorpresa me dijo: "¿Sabe qué? Se lo regalo. Lo único que tiene que hacer es venir a buscarlo a mi casa".
But the stranger told me that his only interest was that whoever had it would use it and not be someone who was going to throw it aside or sell it later. I told him that he was a writer and because of the difficulties he was going through. Then to my surprise he told me: "You know what? I'm giving it to you. All you have to do is come get it at my house."
Aquello me dejó sin palabras y después de darme la dirección, me provocó hasta miedo, pues se trataba de un barrio comunal en la periferia de la ciudad. Mi temor se respaldaba en el contexto donde estamos viviendo, donde las personas son engañosas y capaces de inventarse cualquier cosa para robarte o hacerte daño. Aun así, y con recelo, hoy tomé un taxi para que me llevara a aquella dirección. El sitio quedaba tan lejos que el taxista me cobró $500 pesos o $5 dólares y por supuesto no me esperó porque "este es un barrio malo".
That left me speechless and after giving me the address, it even scared me, since it was a communal neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. My fear was supported by the context in which we live, where people are deceitful and capable of inventing anything to rob you or hurt you. Even so, and with suspicion, today I took a taxi to take me to that address. The place was so far away that the taxi driver charged me $500 pesos or $5 dollars and of course he didn't wait for me because "this is a bad neighborhood".
Todavía con un poco de temor llamé al muchacho y este salió de su casa a recibirme, me invitó a pasar y allí tenía el Kindle esperando por mí. Le dije que no tenía palabras para expresar lo agradecido que estaba. Me dijo que no había problemas, que él solo quería que lo tuviera alguien que lo usara de verdad, pues se había comprado uno más moderno. Antes de irme, volví a agradecerle, entonces le pedí disculpas y le comenté que había llegado a sentir miedo porque... "Estamos claros que aquí nadie regala nada". Nos estrechamos la mano y yo agarré un bus de vuelta a mi casa.
Still a little scared, I called the boy and he came out of his house to greet me, invited me in and there he had the Kindle waiting for me. I told him that he had no words to express how grateful he was. He told me that there were no problems, that he just wanted someone who really uses it to have it, since he had bought a more modern one. Before leaving, I thanked him again, then I apologized and told him that he had become afraid because... "We are clear that nobody here gives anything away." We shook hands and I took a bus back to my house.
Hoy aprendí una lección muy importante y es que no importa dónde vivas ni en qué lugar te desenvuelvas, cuando hay buen corazón nada más importa. Lo otro es que uno siembre recibe lo que da, meses atrás, cuando cambié de computadora, antes de venderla, regalé mi Chromebook a un amigo escritor que no tenía dónde escribir. Hoy, Dios quiso que fuera recompensado de una forma similar.
Today I learned a very important lesson and it is that no matter where you live or where you work, when there is a good heart, nothing else matters. The other thing is that you always get what you give, months ago, when I changed my computer, before selling it, I gave my Chromebook to a writer friend who had nowhere to write. Today, God wanted him to be rewarded in a similar way.
Así que, amigos... les invito a mirar las buenas acciones de las personas y si tienen la oportunidad de dar algo, háganlo sin esperar nada a cambio. Serán recompensados.
