Good day, amazing people of the Hive Blockchain. Welcome back to my blog. It is another edition in the #hivenaija community. I am so delighted to participate in this week's prompts: write a story about a character waking up to the best news of their life, fiction or nonfiction.
If it is within our power, we will always wake Bio with good news. Life, they say, is not fair and can’t be predicted. Things may be coming well, but before you know it, everything we have worked for will vanish into thin air.
Years ago as a fresh graduate, I was lucky to secure a job in a firm as a marketer. It was not easy to convince people to buy our product under the sun and in the rain; I was outside looking for clients that would patronise my company. Due to how devoted I was to my work, I earned respect from my boss and my colleague.
There is a big company. My boss asked me to do everything within my power for them to invest in our company. It is a foreign company and a big catch for my company. This is when I realised that marketing is not for the weak, but if I am able to secure this job for my company, I will be promoted.
I wrote a proposal and sent it to the company through email. They will read the email and promise to get back to me. I waited for some months; no reply. I sent another proposal to them; no reply. Whenever I am saying my prayer, I always put it in my prayers. I believe God for a miracle every moment. I keep checking my email, hoping for a reply from them.
One year later, as the melody from the bird wakes me up from sleep, I stretch my hands, yawning, and sit up from bed. I reach out for my phone on my desk; this is one of my morning rituals.
I turned on my data, and there were a lot of notifications from WhatsApp, Facebook, and my email. As I scrolled through my email, lo and behold, the foreign company had accepted my proposal. It was boldly written, Our company will invest in your company. Make arrangements for proper signing, as our representative will be in your country next week. I screamed with joy, which made my siblings rush in to know if I was okay. With joy, I lifted up my mom; tears of joy were rushing down my eyes. I couldn’t believe that I had made it. I picked up my phone and read the email over again to be sure it was not a scam or fake. Immediately a call came in, and it was from their customer service. That was when I realised that it was real.
This is the news I have waited for. Waking up with the best news after months of starting wake-up-to-write proposals and midnight prayers, that morning was the best day of my life.
Getting to the office, I shared the good news with my boss. He was so happy, and I was treated like a queen at work. My boss gifted me.
They came in just as promised, and the contract was sealed immediately. I was promoted; my heart was overfilled with happiness. The best news changed my story.
This is my response to the weekly prompts on the #hivenaija topic: write a story about a character waking up to the best news of their life, fiction or nonfiction.
