I don’t own a lot of things and if you visit me, you’ll notice. I like space, I like room and I try to make that. The only things I can willingly spend money on to an adequate degree is food, data and transportation. Every other thing is secondary and only come when I “want” them.
Having said this, I do have three things that are quite expensive (in my books) but it different to others - especially my peers who are better off than I am. It’s quite “cheap”.
The first would be my laptop. This laptop was acquired thanks to a job I started last year. I had to upgrade due to the nature of the job and the boss was magnanimous enough to give me an advance. For that I’m forever grateful. The laptop still serves me today but, I’m beginning to set my sights on something better.
As frugal as I can be, I also like comfort. One of my goals to have an inbuilt study in my living room. It’s spacious enough but I don’t see it happening in this house I’m living in. I see it happening elsewhere.
The second most expensive thing I have would be my phone. Right from 2022, I had told myself I would get myself a good phone. Staying on Hive, I got to realise that I needed to invest more in my camera that anything else. Also, from experience, I wanted something that was an easy swap. In 2023, I got myself an XR.
I have to say that it took me about a few months of acquiring this phone to build back the money I used via Hive. I put the camera to good use and I still do today. Not as much as back then because I really don’t fancy going out much. Whenever I do, I always take pictures of what the weather is like, my surroundings or people.
As funny as this sounds, I have two shoes that are the most expensive among my possessions. I got these shoes online via my cousin because it what she does as a business. And yet, my mates tell me it’s “freaking cheap”. Then what would you classify as expensive Biko?
I hardly wear these shoes. Not because I’m scare to ruin them or something but because I hardly go out. And when I do, I prefer something casual because it’s most likely just a walk or something.
Then why did you buy the shoes?
Well because I wanted them. I saw them, liked them and got them. It’s as easy as that. It’s nice to have something added to your wardrobe.
I looked around me to find just what I owned that were expensive and acquired with my own money. That’s it. Nothing more unless you want to add in my clothes and toiletries. Ah. And the food. Lol.
