Hello everyone, greetings to all of you, I believe you are in good health. I wish to share with you today, the festivities in my land, depicting Africa culture. Yam festivities it's lovely display of cultural identity and heritage in this part of the world.
Every year comes a special festivities of new yam in this part of Nigeria Izzi (Igbo land). It usually take place in community of the tribe elder land igbagu, where the priest announce the celebration day, of offering some sacrifices, thanking God for successful year farming.
The date for this special celebration varies from place to place in Igbo land but still a particular and significant one festival. Izzi clan as part of Igbo speaking part of Nigeria, celebrate their new yam festival in August of every year.
This year celebration was significant, masquerade as part of culture was displayed and the neighbouring communities and visitors where well entertained. It is a festivity that marks the maturity of yam as the king of all farm produce.
This day, special soup is being made by the mothers, wives, to be used to on the yam when it is pounded. Local special soups are made with chickens being killed assorted for the celebration. Women in their various organisations dress colourfully to showcase this cultural identity. Welcome to Izzi clan Igbo land new yam festival for the year 2023.
