Hello everyone,
Welcome to my blog, I'm really excited to be here I never knew that the #hivenaija weekly contest has been on again, I was just exploring the communities when I came across this wonderful contest and I really want to share my experience too.
This topic is really interesting for us as Nigerians because everyone who lives in #Nigeria and has a bank account must have had one terrible experience with the bank because that's what they are really good at, making people suffer for their own money all in the name of banking with traditional banks.
I was very young then, I was 18 when the bank marketers of where making their advertisement encouraging people to open account with them, they came to my mum's shop and convinced me to open one I was not even ready as of that time to since I didn't have one and I was up to the age I decided to open with them. I opened an account that day and it was successful. They asked me to visit one of their branches for verification and ATM card collection.
The next week I visited the bank, I did the verification and deposited some money, went back the next week for BVN and card collection, all was successful. The only thing I used to verify my account then was passport, NEPA bill and my birth certificate and that was it. I was using this account without any problem for years, not until one day when my dad sent in a big amount of money for me to pay my school fee and this money was above 50k.
I quickly rush to the nearest bank close to me with my ATM card with joy in my heart, in fact I went to UBA bank because their ATM machine is screen touch while I was banking with FCMB LoL 😂 😂 😂 my wonderful readers I stand in the queue for a long time only to reach my turn I was unable to withdraw, I checked my balance I was money, I called someone for help to see maybe I don't know figures again she confirmed it that there in money inside. Hmmm left the queue and immediately went to my bank, reaching there I met the lady that opened the account for me, she was oo no your account has been freeze, it's a student account you are not supposed to put in money that is more than 50k I was like what how come you never made mention of this to me while I was opening the account.
This was the money I was to use to pay my school fee and you know Nigeria university and their crush if the portal is closed, when they open again you have to pay late payment fee. I was stranded I was ask to go bring my NIN and NEPA bill for account upgrade, by then the use of NIN was not really a necessity in Nigeria this was 2018, I had to go to NIN office because there was no shortcut to get NIN then you have to go to the office, the first day I went the crowd was supposed something else my line number was something wowing to me, I lift and went back the next day by 7:30 wait at the gate for the office to be open by 8 O'clock.
Luckily I was given a number that was good, I went in and while the verification was going on there was a problem with my fingerprint, I was asked to come back in two weeks. Hmmmm I was very angry. I pleaded with the woman no way, till the next week when I went back it was finally resolved. Immediately I got my National ID card. I went straight to the bank and did the upgrade, I was asked to wait for the next 24 hours before I will be able to withdraw money.
The next day I went to the ATM machine and withdrew all the money in that account and i bought chicken and cold drink to chill the anger that was in me.
