After the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, our lives took another turn, something we had never experienced before. During the pandemic, most people were asked to stay indoors. I stopped going to work, and I was home with my parents and siblings except for my little sister, who was in school and couldn't travel before the verdict of no movement in Nigeria was issued, so she stayed back in school.

After a lot of time at home, people started getting hungry. Many of them went out to work in local places just to sustain their families; some others were surviving on the savings they had since the previous yes. My family and I were able to survive because he bought food in bulk during the festive period without knowing there would be a pandemic.
Things were going smoothly as we all prayed as a nation for the pandemic to pass over, but then, another pandemic hit the country. This wasn't a disease like the coronavirus, but there was a mass robbery going on in the nation. People started getting robbed on their way from work, from the farm, in their cars, and at home, and no one felt safe. The hunger in the land has pushed so many people into doing things they wouldn't do on a normal day.
Apart from people getting robbed, the police took the law into their own hands to search and take from the citizens. 2020 was a year when police brutality was rampant in the country. As of September 2020, people had started resuming work in the office, and things felt like they were going back to normal, but police started attacking anyone they found suspicious on their terms.
The people of the country, most of them especially the youth, bonded together to start a nationwide strike all over the country with the hashtag (EndSars, EndpoliceBrutality). The truth is that many people have suffered at the hands of these wicked policemen, people who are meant to protect us. People started running away from them so they could be protected.

The strike started, roads were short, and students couldn't go to school. I couldn't go to work either because most of the major roads had been shut down. After some days, I got a termination letter, and the reason was that the company wasn't doing well enough to keep paying their staff, so they had to let a lot of staff go.
I joined the protest twice, but I stopped because my mom gave me an earful of words. I was tongue-lashing the whole day.
20 October 2020. On this day,.
Most of my friends have gone to join the mass protest at the Lekki toll gate. I wished I could join them, but I didn't want to disobey my mom, especially when my dad was home. I was with them on social media, reposting all my tweets and uploading them to my WhatsApp status. Shortly after dinner, news started flying all over the nation like wildfire. Soldiers were shooting at the protesters at the Lekki toll gate. I was scared as I was following the live feed. People were running, and I started calling my friends, most especially a female friend who went with them. They all came home the following day, but my female friend broke her arm while running; she was stepped upon. It was a day of big loss for the country because many youths lost their lives. It's a day I will never forget. Thanks for reading.
