This picture has been going viral in Nigeria following the recent event that happened on palm Sunday. This is an image that is both powerful and deeply emotional. This picture is in comparison to the image of Christ when he was put down from the cross and into his mother's lap, while that was a statue picture, this is reality that share is the pain and struggle people experience in the face of humanity and insecurity.
The picture is so emotional because everyone felt the pain of a mother holding on to her dying child. It has become normalization for terrorists to attack churches or communities and the government does nothing about the situation. At one point, the military personnel that was supposed to mobilize and protect the people claim that they should give the terrorists a second chance to live a better life while they wipe out others.
What is so painful is that bloodshed has become the order of the day, violence prevails, people are displace, lives are shattered, grief is rampant and the authorities are silent. It is a circle that keeps on recurring.
People have complained through various platforms like social media (Facebook, instagram, tiktok, X and so on) but all fall on deaf ears. The thing is these tragedies have become normalized because after a week it fades into the background.
Citizens are made to bear the wrath of ruthless and violent people who choose to slaughter their fellow human beings fro no just reasons.
From the picture, we can depict that the mother is hurt that her son is a victim of a failed country, Nigeria who allowed bandits and terrorists have their way and she couldn't do anything about it. A pain that would linger on in her heart for a long long time.
