The #hivenaijaweekly prompt of this week is so tricky, I mean having to choose between movies and music, two of the best genres of entertainment that keeps mind and body together during stressful time. I love both movies and music that it so hard to choose, if movies has to go does that mean we are stuck with only Nigeria TV news that is always filled with bad news and looming dangers and consequent exploitation. If I am stuck with music that means no visual representation on screen to enjoy and chill with popcorn, sharwama, no Netflix and chill with family and loved ones. Wahala dey oo
But for the sake of the prompt that states that which would I vote for if the world ha to let go of either movies or music by voting, no option than to go with music. It's a hard choice but looking at the consequences and the benefits, it would be better if I stick with music. Music has helped me heal through the hard times and has helped lift my soul in spiritual times and I don't take that for granted. I can go days without having to watch a movie l, but I listen to music all the time but personally or even outside from neighbors speakers and I rhyme with it.
Just recently I made I made on which whether I preferred African music to western music and I picked African Nigerian music. One reason I picked music is the fact, it has no restrictions to place, time or location. You can listen to music anywhere and anytime even in loud places unlike movies. In Nigeria, it is common to see people with their earphones or earpiece listening to musics on the street, the bus, the classroom, playground, homes and so on. It simply goes to show that music is a "go to" for pe3to feel relaxed and comfortable.
Another reason for choosing music is the fact that there are different genres of music that serves as food for the soul. For instance, we have hip hop, apala, fuji, rock, countryside, jazz, pop, blues, classics, regae, disco, Christian, traditional music, gospel and so many more. With this one cannot get bored coupled with the fact that people have learnt to pick genres that suits their current situation or predicament.
Whenever I get to do the house chores, I love to play my music so loud buzzing with newly released Nigerian songs or at other times Christian religious music. It is so soul captivating that when I sing along a surge of energy overcomes me and I get things done easily. I even have specially created Playlist for different occasions. It also serve as a spiritual healing for people, some even fall under the anointing of God while listening to deep Christian songs.
Again, I would say that the music industry in my country has done so well to elevate the status of Nigerian music to a global level. We are on the map with the likes of Davido, Burna Boy, fireboy, Rema, wizkid and so many more. This is why in party, there are several interesting musics to play for guest. How will it be when you go for a wedding ceremony, naming ceremony, funeral, Christmas party and so on and there are no musics to play?. It will be terrible.
With music, we can sing lullaby for the babies and rock them to sleep too. I would not want to miss out of that motherly love of singing for my children.
For these few reason I would gladly vote music over movies. To know more information about the #hivenaijaweekly prompt #18, check here for more details
