The corporate world doesn't prepare you for what you are about to face when you step into it. Some people might have a beautiful experience, while others? Barely hanging by a thread and that sucks.
I used to wonder why people resign from their cool jobs. I used to wonder why people turn down big offers from their employers to start their own venture. Being an adult myself and having tasted the corporate world for a while, I can boldly say, I understand now.
The corporate world isn't for the weak, you must develop a thick skin and get your head in the game. I admire people who work in healthy environments, environments with little or no chaos or drama. Lucky you, you don't get to experience the ugly side of the corporate world.
Note: Not all coporate works are bad but the bad ones? They are toxic.
Having a corporate job feels so good. The remuneration and opportunities are great, but when you’re on the wrong side, it can be terrible.
Your patience would be tested, you’d be wronged, silenced, and abused emotionally in some cases, and for what reason? Trying to make a living and choosing to do it the honest way? This still beats me.
You will experience office politics at its peak, egoistic people, rumour mongers, power-drunken people, etc. You’d be surprised by a lot of people’s actions.
When you hear people say your colleagues are not your friends, it’s not because they willingly want to prevent co-workers from bonding, but because they are speaking from experience and trying to create awareness.
Most arch-enemies in workplaces were once good friends, and the thought of seeing your supposedly “old friend” every day can be taunting.
A lot of people don’t understand that the workplace is so small, smaller than you think. Yes, it might look large from the architectural designs and layout, but believe me, it is so small from the inside. So small that you feel trapped with people from different backgrounds.
You are bound to be angered by people, heck these people can also drive you crazy, and you’d be surprised that most of them derive pleasure in doing stupid things to upset their colleagues.
I’ve had my fair share of corporate drama; I literally experienced one this past week. and I can say for a fact that it can be exhausting and can cut deep. Regardless of your feelings, you are still expected to do your job or face the consequences. Tough right? I know.
As much as the cooperate world is cool, I’m strongly behind anyone who isn’t cut off for it because if I had my way, I wouldn’t either.
What’s your take on the corporate world? Have you ever experienced corporate drama? Were you able to handle it well? I’d love to read your thoughts in the comment section.
