There is no doubt that the modern technology has had alot of impact in every areas of our life. Thinking of what to do to earn a living without the modern technology might be very tough as most of the in the world now revolve around technology.
I have been an agriculture student in Nigeria for 3 years now and I have studied and learnt that is possible to earn a living in this sector without the modern technology.
Agriculture is the practice of cultivating crops, raising livestock, in order to produce food, fiber, fuel, milk and other agricultural products. It also encompasses honey bee keeping, forestry and planting of ornamental flowers.
How do I earn a living??🤔
First of all, I will practice livestock rearing (cattle, sheep, goat) . I would buy more female and few male young ones and when they grow I would make them mate with each other but keep them in different pens to prevent indiscriminate mating. I would indulge in majorly natural mating and practice the breeding method ratio 1:10 which means I can use 1 male breed to service 10 different female animals which will produce more offsprings. By this way I can sell them when they get matured and make my money. Animals like sheep and cattle serves as a source of raw materials that could as well earn me money such as their hooves which can be used in to make glue, sheep fur is used in making cotton , they produce milk which is a good source of protein and source of income.
Secondly, I will indulge in crop production. The first thing I would do is to add manures from the livestock animals to improve and fasten the growth of my plants . Cocoa production is something I will consider as it would make me earn a living through trade and export. Cocoa is also a is a key ingredient in chocolate production, which is enjoyed worldwide. The chocolate industry generates significant revenue and employment opportunities across the country which includes , farming, processing, and manufacturing. I will earn a living by selling the cocoa to the industries and markets where they are needed and get paid.
Apiculture is another area of agriculture i will involve in to earn a living. The primary product of apiculture is honey , which is gotten from beehives. Honey is not only a natural sweetener and a source of food but also has other cosmetic uses. Apart from honey, beekeepers may also collect other hive products, such as beeswax. These product have various commercial and medicinal applications.
Another agricultural sector I would involve in is poultry farming . Poultry farming majorly involves rearing of birds such as Chickens, Turkey, duck e.t.c . There are basically different poultry birds but the ones I will surely be going for are the chickens most especially the layers. The layers serve as dual purpose animals they are used as meat and they also lay eggs . On average a healthy layer hen can lay between 250 to 300 eggs per year and one crate of egg in Nigeria contains 22 eggs and usually sold out at around 2$ which is good way of making provided i have a large number of them kept in my pen. All I need to is distribute the eggs to the retailers, wholesaler , industries or even the final consumers and earn my money. Also, as these birds grow old they produce fewer eggs and at this stage I could take them to the market during festive periods like Christmas and also earn money from there as well.
Lastly, you do not need to be a farmer before you can make money from agriculture. Buying and selling farm produce such as groudnut, rice, beans, yam is a smart way to make money in this agricultural sector. You could be a retailer, wholesaler or a distributor all you need is to decide on what you want to sell , how to sell , what benefit people derive from the produce and how to sell it in order to make more profit.
