In Nigeria, almost everyone likes attending weddings. It's a colorful events that one would love to attend almost everyday if it's possible. Its also a remarkable day filled with joy for the intending couples and their families.
In a wedding, no one can leave behind the elegant guests that will grace the occasion in their lovely attires. Whether the guests are directly invited or not they must be there to witness the occasion cause there will be free foods and drinks. Ehhhh who no like free things?
I also love attending weddings because I will be married one day, so I have to celebrate with others too. Another most important thing about attending weddings is the food, ohhhhh the taste of party jollof rice is heavenly. It has a particular sweet taste that words can't comprehend, only God knows why party rice taste differently.
So people take lot of time to plan for their wedding so that it will be flawless. One of the most important reason intending couples nowadays employs the services of event planners for their big day is because of stress that comes with the preparations and also they want a pleasant and memorable day without flaws.
Sometimes, no matter the amount of time one dedicate to wedding preparations, unforseen circumstances might have it way which might be beyond ones control and will be a relic in the union.
My Experience
The wedding that I attended that went wrong happened to my cousin (my Uncle's daughter). The couple really put in all their efforts to have a flawless ceremony and everything was going smoothly from the engagement party on Friday to the solemnization service in Church on Saturday morning, it was perfect and everything goes as planned.
After the church service, we all headed to an event hall which wasn't far from the Church premises to have the reception for the guests. The hall was fully decorated with nice sitting arrangements, the catering service are on stand by with live band already giving guests solemn music, so everyone is waiting for the grand entry of the couple with their bridal trains so as to commence the reception.
Just as the master of ceremony calls for the couple to dance in, only for us to hear a strange spark from outside, this spark was from the generating system that was powering the hall. All lightenings and sound systems in the hall goes off immediately, we even saw smoke coming from the sound engine.
Almost everyone in the hall turned to engineers looking for how to rectify the fault but all was abortive. About thirty good minutes when nothing meaningful was done than fixing the hall lightenings, the bride's father told the MC to call in the couple while we all sings and clap to usher them in.
The bride started crying at the door post, we began to beg her so that the reception will hold and for the guest to eat and go, everyone felt her pain but nothing can be done. I've never experienced such kind of scenerio at a wedding before, but I saw my cousin cried that day cause her party didn't go as planned.
In the end, the couple danced in with all of us singing and clapping joyfully to usher them in. But their look wasn't pleasant at all, they both frowned throughout the few minutes we spent at the reception.
