It's always interesting to listen to some of the manifestos of our aspiring presidents make loads of promises on the areas they would fix for the good of the country. But then, it has mostly ended in promises; just a few of our past leaders were able to achieve something that, when we look back, we will say, If not for this ex-president, we wouldn't have had this or that, or We wish it were the tenure of this or that president; this area would have been fixed.
You know, it makes more sense that people can remember us for good. Even in our different families, we are all leaders, so what kind of legacy are we leaving behind? What are those things we consider vital and will fight for with our blood and positive energy until we see results? Sometimes, it's simple to blame these leaders, but deep down within us, we don't even lead the little circles entrusted to our care well, but we are too quick to blame those in the seat. If only we will start practicing good leadership in our various families and in those little organizations we find ourselves in, then we will anticipate a better country in the future. I am sorry to sound this way, kind of deviating from the prompt question, but this is just my inspiration and thus the need to voice it out through writing.
So without further ado, if I become the president of my country tomorrow, the first two struggles of the citizens that I will love to tackle first are insecurity and attending to our natural resources.
Nowadays, you can hardly listen to News @10 without hearing one ugly news story after another regarding the activities of the herdsmen, the bandits, the kidnappers, Boko Haram, etc. Back then, it was Boko Haram that terrorized this country so much, but now, all manner of crimes have become the order of the day, leaving the citizens in fear and unsafe, as well as eating deep into our economy. Why? Because our foreign investors are scared of coming down to our country to do business with us, just like before.
This is a concern and a matter of urgency to fix, but no, our leaders don't care; they are always after filling their pockets. Those days, we only feared going to the northern part because of insecurity, but now, all parts of the country aren't safe any longer. The video I watched today on how herdsmen were slaughtering human beings in Enugu was so terrible. In Imo State, it's the same thing, even in my own hometown down there in the village; evils and all manner of crimes have prevailed. The citizens now move about their daily activities in fear.
So to attend to this security issue, there's the need to equip the security armed forces and get them trained with the latest technology on how to easily track crimes. Recruit fresh security officers and make their salaries very attractive. In fact, there will be the need for me to build more prisons before it's not going to be a joke, lol. Let the peace of the country be restored so we can do things without fear. I tell you that once the security issues are addressed, it will affect our economy positively.
Finally, the natural resources in my country. With what we have as a country regarding natural resources, we are not supposed to struggle much. Imagine a country with oil and gas raw material doing exportation. It's all about a visionary leader to take advantage of what we have and place the country in a better place, good enough that the masses wouldn't struggle much. This will definitely affect our petrol cost too, positively, and gradually, we will get out of our present mess.
Overall, these two areas discussed above will be my major focus before attending to other mountains of issues we face as a country .
