It's a common habit for most people to set new goals at the beginning of the year, and I am not an exception to this. Most times, I begin nurturing what the new year will look like for me a few months prior to the new year. However, life can take another turn, sometimes leaving us with unexpected results from our goals, but that shouldn't be a reason to stop us from setting goals.

The problem most people face when setting goals is the fact that we don't make room for the uncertainties that lie ahead. We try to remain positive with our goals and only anticipate a desirable result without having an open mind of what if things go wrong.
This is why it looks easier for people to be so hard on themselves when they don't meet their goals in a particular time frame. However, there are things I feel are natural and that we can't eliminate totally, which are disappointment, failure, setbacks, etc., and they have the tendency to disrupt our goals, but staying motivated is important to scale through amidst those distractions.
There are lots of uncertainties even as we set our goals, but your success starts with the mind. Staying resilient when things don't go as planned and having the positive mindset to re-strategize are important. I have encountered failures several times in the past with my goals, but I will always tell myself that I am not actually a failure and that whatever goals I couldn't meet are an opportunity for me to learn and begin again working hard through my experience to ensure that things take a good shape.
So what if I am already halfway through 2024 and nothing seems to be working as planned? What if my attempts to achieve my goals yield uninspiring results? See below what my reaction will look like.
Just yesterday, I set my hive goals for the year with expectations and work in progress, including my offline goals. Yea, I crave a desirable end; I crave to celebrate my achievements and even surpass my goals if possible, but like I said earlier, things don't always go as planned, and in this case, the most important thing to do is to:
- Carryout appraisal for the past six months: Assessment of my past activities is inevitable, especially when I am not seeing results. I won't just continue doing what I have been doing half way into my year. There's a need to carry out appraisals to get a clearer picture of what to do or not to do again.
- Find out the reason it's not working: I will try to set questions for myself to know why things aren't working as anticipated. What do I need to do differently and the likes.
Learn from the mistakes: with proper evaluation, I should be able to pinpoint my mistakes because, of course, I can't get things done rightly for six straight months without making mistakes. Once my mistakes are established, I will learn from them and keep pushing.
Change strategies: This is a must-do action to take when results aren't coming through. There will be a need to go back to my drawing board and re-strategize for a better outcome.
- Try again: this time from the point of experience, giving up is a no-no; it's possible to meet up with my goals. Even in the remaining six months of the year, where it appears not to be possible to achieve all, the next year will be an opportunity to try again.
