Hello, everyone.
designed on canva.
I welcome you to my blog. I hated being in a situation where I was left with no other choice but to lie to my parents, but sometimes you just have to do it to save yourself from their quarrels and as well save them from the headache they might suffer later on.
In 2020, after the pandemic, I was able to get myself a job at a sachet water producing company. Universities were on strike, so instead of staying at home after the whole pandemic crisis, I took the job, though the pay was small, about 15,000 naira ($19.88). I had lots of needs to attend to with such little income; most of all, I needed to get a new phone as the one I was using got bad.
I told my mom I needed a new phone. Like always, they'd ask for the price range of the phone you have in mind, and I told her a phone of at least a hundred thousand naira ($132) wouldn't be bad. Just like I expected, she started quarreling and complaining about what I needed such an expensive phone for. The matter did not end there, as she went ahead to report to my dad, asking him to advise me on how to go about spending my salary.
Dad called me and said all he said. In my mind, I was like, That which I will do, I will surely do 😂. You want me to get a 1 GB RAM phone or what? The price range of 30,000 naira ($39.4) they wanted can only give me a 1 GB RAM phone, but I needed a phone better than that because I do a lot of things on my phone, and that cannot serve. They kept reminding me not to be extravagantand that I should also try to save up. In casee school resumes, on my end, my mind was already made up.
I worked for about four months, and I was able to save up to 60,000 naira ($79.2) from both salary and tips. I had some Cryptocurrency holdings like Steem and some Bitcoin that I sold all off, and I was able to realize a total of 143,000 thousand naira ($189.43). Since we work Mondays to Saturdays, I only had Sunday as a free day to go get my dream phone (the Infinix Note 8 at the time was trending, and I loved the features of the phone).
On Sunday, I left for an electronic store with a friend of mine. I got there, and an Infinix Note 8 with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of ROM was sold for 120,000 naira ($159.06). I tried negotiating, but all to no avail, so I paid for the phone and headed back home. Reaching the doorstep, I immediately reached out for the receipt and put it in my pocket while I showed my parents the phone.
Like expected, they asked for the amount at which I bought the phone, I had to lie to n order for peace to reign, I told them I got the phone for 30,000 naira ($39.40). My friend coughed 😂. They believed, but after some time I had to tell them the truth, but then it was already late, so they only quarreled a little and let the matter be.
